For those lucky few (Canadians), how did you make your payment?

For those who have been lucky enough to pick up their Rivians, how did you make the payment. As I understand it, there are a few options (each with some pros and cons):

1) Bank draft - Easy to get from your bank, but you have to drop it off at Rivian's office downtown Vancouver at least 1 day before pickup in Richmond
2) ACSS (Automated Clearing Settlement System) - Easy from your bank account, but could be delays of 24-72hrs
3) Wire transfer

Each has their pro's and cons. How did you do yours?

Edit: Thanks for the replies to date, but I think the rules in US might be different to Canada.

Not sure of the 1 week requirement on a bank draft. I picked mine up at the factory On 1/26/2023. The day before I got a certified check from my CU, uploaded a picture for the 7 step, and brought it with me to the factory when I picked it up.

For me it was easy...

1) Down Payment was made using Plaid. I hooked it up to my bank for the one transfer. Made it the day before pickup. and disconnected.

2) For the Loan... I had my Credit Union cut me a check. They send it to my house a week ahead of time. I filled out the portions of the check for the borrower. Then two days before pickup (could have been 1), I took pictures of the front and back of the check, put it in an overnight envelope to Rivian. Sent them to photos and tracking number.

I could have also brought the CU check to the San Diego, CA Service Center.

Not all service centers accept these checks because some states do not allow them to "sell" cars in that manner.

I'm still 1-2 months from delivery, but if those are the options I'll likely do a wire. It'll be coming from a business account, so I can do the wire from the comfort of my desk without having to drive to the bank and then downtown. You should ask if you can do 34 consecutive e-transfers :)

I didn't realize there was a requirement to drop it off a day ahead for 1). We live in Victoria, so would be coming over to pickup - no way 1 will work for us if thats the case. When we came over to pick up our Tesla we just brought the draft with us for the downpayment.

What are the cons for 2 and 3? Having to pay 24-72 hours ahead (without seeing the R1 in person to approve it)? We have our VIN assigned and are likely 5-6 weeks out - so I'll need to figure this out soon-ish I guess.

I used the ACH method. I think it was called Stripe? Entered my details and get an immediate confirmation. Took 48 hours for it to finalize, otherwise it was super simple.

For the bank draft, I confirmed with rep Tyler today that it needs to be dropped off at the downtown location the day before. But contact them, maybe it can be different in your case.

But I did confirm that 100% you have to drop off the cheque downtown, and then take delivery in Richmond.

Surely one could mail or courier the cheque?

the “day before” requirementis pesky. Every new car I’ve bought has been with a certified cheque handed over on delivery day.

Sorry, maybe my wording was a bit vague..

I am sure you can send it in earlier than the day before. I should have said it needs to be at the downtown location at least 1 day before.

I agree that it is a bit of a pain.

I meant more to the point that it probably doesn’t have to be hand delivered by the purchaser. I’m sure they’d happily take a cheque earlier ?

Which is still weird IMO for the reasons you mentioned. I've never had to pay ahead of a car - not even Tesla (just checked my email history, downpayment was required via certified cheque/bank draft due at delivery). So not sure why Rivian is requiring the bank draft ahead of time.

Interesting. When I picked up my Tesla, I paid them with a personal cheque. No issues.

Used Stripe - Extremely easy process and if I had to do it again I would repeat the same way.

Did you have to do the Stripe transfer ahead of the delivery? If so - how far ahead?
