BLUF: (IMHO) expensive, but it worked with no issues.

Took a bit of a longish drive this weekend. I probably didn’t need to charge, but we were stopping for a while to eat and walk around. There happened to be a Flo station near by so I signed up for an account.

You have to pre-fund the account with a credit card, the minimum being $10, which is what I did. Arriving at the station it was pretty straightforward… connect the ccs connector, select the station ID in the app & click go. The session initiated without a problem and the truck called for 80KW from this 100KW pedestal.

This location used a tiered charging structure; $0.99 flat fee, plus anywhere from $0.43 to $0.65/KW, depending on time of day. IMHO this is quite expensive, but since we were already here & this was the first time I had tried to L3 charge this vehicle it was worth a try.

At that point I left it charging, expecting that once it hit the $10 limit in my account that the session would end. However, I checked the app about 10 minutes later to find that I had already rung up nearly $14.00, so I walked back to the station, terminated the session & moved out of the parking space. My account now shows a nearly -$4.00 balance. But since the only way to satisfy that is to add another $10, it will likely sit in that state for a while, as I typically do not need to charge on the road.

At least the charging session completed without any problems.

Apparently the concept of shutting off a charger when you reach a limit is beyond their programming skill set. ?

Pricing is on par with EVgo. And preloading account is similar to EA. Nothing earth shattering.

The 100kW Flo chargers I've used are current limited to 200A, so the maximum charging rate you will get on a Rivian is 80kW.

I think the way they takes payments is a little more considerate than other companies like EA, which automatically charge your card when account balance falls below a minimum. With EA, they always keep $10-$20 of my money unused in my account. Flo lets the balance go below zero, which needs to be reloaded before your next charge. That allows me to keep my balance around $0 on average.

If it is like ChargePoint, they will add $10 onto your account automatically so you will have a $6.00 credit. I haven't used chargepoint on the R1T, but I have with our Rav4 Prime and it put a $32 in the account based on the charging history.

I have never charged at a place that will shut off at a certain percentage. If you start at 20% and your R1T is set to go to 80%.....it will continue until it gets to that percentage.

Maybe next time adjust the percentage to a lower amount and it will shut off when it hits that percentage. Make sure you go and unplug because some stations will charge you an idling/parking fee and it can be anywhere from $0.10/min to $5.00/hour.
