I today discovered the rear light bar on my R1S is intermittently flickering. Not a problem as I’ve got a mobile service appointment for March 12. My question regards the fact that I need to drive from NJ into PA at the weekend. Anyone know if cops will take a dim view and pull me over for having a rear light out/faulty lights???

The light bar is not a requirement to my knowledge. The brake lights are at the edges and above the rear glass...as long as those work they shouldn't mess with you.

The light bar on my 2023 R1S Quad Large started flickering about 2 months ago and then went totally dead last month (no charging light or red light at all). I just did a road trip to Canada and back and no issues - even had a couple of police officers directly behind me on the highway. As the light bar is basically cosmetic - it’s my option that there is no violation / safety issue diving the vehicle while it’s out - nor would I hesitate to drive it because of that.

Rivian did a mobile service yesterday and replaced the entire light bar and said the problem was rectified, but also noted that they found water in wiring connector and that if the problem happens again I’ll need to schedule a service center visit and they’ll replace the wiring.

Well - I notice last night (6 hours after the mobile appointment. Was complete) that the rear light bar isn’t working again / is out. I tried all the normal troubleshoots but can’t get it to illuminate at all - nor will the green strip below while charging. Seems like I have a service center trip in my future.

While the mobile service was fully covered under warranty and didn’t cost me anything - the replacement of the light bar now seems like it may have been unnecessary if it’s actually a wiring issue. Probably an unnecessary $1500 spends by Rivian for an incorrect fix - and most annoyingly a service center visit for me - and now going on 3 months with this issue.

Seems like it might be a wiring harness issue. Wow that looks almost like a police strobe without the blue...red and blue are illegal if you aren't law enforcement...that's probably why they were behind you trying to figure out if they had probable cause.
