Yeah, with most other EVs on the market, the charge port is on the front of the car, driver’s side. So to charge the R1T (or most others) at a Tesla charger, you have to effectively block two spaces. The exception would be if you can pull in next to the stall furthest to the right or partially into that space to use it, thus not blocking more than one charge spot. A few Tesla Supercharger locations have pull-through stalls for people with trailers. These will work great for the R1T or Lightning, but inconveniences someone else who might want it if pulling a trailer.

Since Tesla chargers will need a Tesla to CCS adapter, I think it would make sense for Tesla (or someone) to make an adapter that is also an extension, allowing most other vehicles to use the charger designated for the space they park in.
Adapter+extension cable is likely going to = significantly reduced charging speeds. We will have to wait and see but Tesla level 3 SC's have a liquid cooled cable to support +250 kw charging. Its likely that if an adapter and extension cable were even possible (likely to be very expensive), charging speeds would be significantly reduced to keep the adapter/extension from melting.

When a Tesla backs into a supercharger spot, they plug into the charger on the drivers side of the vehicle. If an R1T pulls in head first, the drivers side of the vehicle is now on opposite side of the stall. The supercharger cable is gonna be 5 feet short.
The stalls go both ways, so just use the one that will be inches from the charge port? What would prevent a Rivian or other vehicle charging at this supercharger?

This is why:

It's possible, but you are now occupying two chargers.

Not all of them are arranged this nicely. That said, if an R1T charges here, it would still be using the charger opposite of what a Tesla would use. In reference to the Tesla already in the picture, an R1T would pull into the space next to it, just behind it from the camera‘s POV, and would need to use the same charger the Tesla is already using. Not an issue when there are lots of open spaces. But non-Teslas that have their charge port up front create a mismatch. The issue doesn’t really exist for Teslas going to EA or other chargers since they usually have long charge cords that can reach either side of the space.

I would not go that far.
Of course you wouldn’t but you are a massive Tesla fan. Surprised you are even on here and not the Tesla forums.

Tesla has lauded multiple moats including batteries (available from Panasonic by anyone else), their manufacturing approach (again behind most established manufacturers) and now the chargers (which are being opened up and would be overtaken by EA, EVGo etc building more).
