Well that sucks. My Rivian can't do 130 MPH like this police cruiser...

Also there was is a lot of hilly twisty roads (and of roads) in Palo Alto. If you have to chase one of those crazy teen age drivers up page mill or alpine for example the power and handling would be helpful. Of course that begs the question of whether we want to have super police cars doing high speed chases in these roads. If it's good enough for Dubai, it's good enough for PA. Also, the 0-60 probably will help.

And this one might have been free. Donated. Palo Alto isn't just where Rivian has an office. It's also HQ for the Rivian VW Group joint venture.Police Explorer $50k + equipment
Base R1S $70k before any incentive + equipment
Seems like a no brainer for me.

Except yup!Nope
How much extra gasoline would a police cruiser use while idling? I hear that police never turn their police cars off during a shift, even when at lunch or dinner while parked.Being career Police, I think this is a great idea. A Rivian would be ideal for many metropolitan police situations. As a young radio patrol officer in Downtown Miami, I would rarely put more than 20 miles on the vehicle in an 8 hour shift. The quietness of an EV would make it an ideal vehicle for late night patrol. If Rivian were interested in pursuing this market, they could strip down the interior to bring down the price down to fleet levels. Also, a Rivian delivery van would make an excellent "paddy wagon".

Probably 1/4 tank to idle for 10 hours... 5 gallons-ish. Unless the PD adds an interlock to keep the cruiser from being driven without the keys being present, you definitely don't want to leave it idling, even if locked. You definitely don't want to be that guy who let his car get stolen? How much extra gasoline would a police cruiser use while idling? Again, nope. Those might be nice cars, but nothing about them being police makes them cooler.Except yup!
Also, Dubai. I didn't take this actual picture (unlike the Istanbul one, which I took last May) but I did see a couple of examples when I was there last month:
