The LFP battery seems to dip primarily in the below 30F consistent temps
Ah!!!! So I made the classic mistake of assuming something would be ok in our weather up here just because my last two EVs were shockingly good at cold weather range I assumed that was just another of the persistent “EV talking points for trolls” and not actually true anymore…

Ah well, I’ll just make sure I keep asking the truck or phone about any longer trips and not get in the habit of assuming something”that didn’t need a stop last time” means anything as the months roll by…

Yeah, my winter average (Dec-Mar) was right around 2mi/kw which would put it at 182mi range. Of course, that was 80% local rural highway driving in very cold temperatures, with a handful of multi-hour/highway trips to Boston or portland. Snow mode on like 30% of winter, tonneau closed mostly.

I think the LFP struggles more in cold weather, as many have mentioned. But for me, the ability to charge to 100% consistently and the potentially longer life span of the battery made it a good decision. I know Tesla has begun incorporating pre-heating to supercharger design for their own LFP cars (RWD Y and 3), so hopefully tweaks like that make it to other charging platforms and the overall software accommodates better since Rivian has only been putting out an LFP standard for 8-9 months.

I think the S might be slightly more efficient overall too based on our used quad gen1 R1S efficiency since getting it recently as second vehicle, seems more efficient.

How about Russia?
Nope, VT not AK.

This is the view out my bedroom window, the other side of that lake to the left is Canada. To the right is the nearest town. Also to the left much farther then the curvature of the earth allows one to see is the rest of the lake. It isn’t one of the “great lakes”, it is “only” about 5 miles tip to tip (VA has a bridge longer then that!).

Seriously, though, it's a beautiful area up there. As a kid we'd go skiing up in Jay Peak, and a few years ago I did the Presidential Traverse through the White Mountains (made it in 12 hours...and I'll never do it again. I hurt for 4-5 days after).

Well you got the right lake, but I’m not as close as that picture makes it look, so very much not on lake road.

I mean to be honest I used my real name here and real estate transactions are public record in this state, so a visit to the records office, or $50 to a PI should be able to get my address.

So I’ll try not to piss anyone off enough to motivate them to do that plus anything we might all regret….

@McLovin - I admire you knocking out the Presidential Traverse in 12 hours. I've done the "Couple of Presidents Stroll" 4 times now (hike up to Madison Springs and spend the night, next day to Washington for lunch in the caf and then on to spend the night at Lakes of the Clouds, then to Mizpah Spring the next night before strolling down to our waiting car). Very different pace and lots of time to look around and enjoy the Whites.

Yeah, I was just having a bit of fun.

And as I've mentioned before, I'm also using my real name here. I am McLovin...

It was rough. I was with a tennis buddy who was (and still is) (a) 15 years younger, and (b) in much better shape than me. He & his wife did a 100 mile hike for their honeymoon...

This is me w/ Madison hut in the background (well...kinda...to the left of the 'lake'):

Looking at the photos, that was almost 10 years ago.

EDIT: @theonetruestripes ...sorry for the thread hijack...

You should be able to change drive modes on the fly as long as you are not using adaptive cruise control
I have definitely been able to turn it on while driving since then, although I only tried it i my driveway so while I was moving it may have been 10MPH or so. So I’m guessing I tried it with cruise control on and misinterpreted the error message.

One thing of note: I’m pretty sure you should be able to switch drive modes anytime, as long as cc is off
Yeah, later experiments have confirmed I can definitely turn it on/off at “normal” speeds. So I must have had cruise control on.

You will get better than 1.8..
Yeah, I seem to be doing a touch over 2 now, although my wife liking to come out on “chores” trips and staying on the car with the HVAC running likely isn’t helping the numbers (hey, I don’t blame her, it is a really comfy set of seats!)
