320 miles of range for Lariat Extended range is pretty good. I'm betting real world range is going to be closer to 280 though.

Who knows, maybe they used "Tesla Miles" that are equivalent to .8 real miles o_O

https://electrek.co/2022/03/17/ford-base-f-150-lightning-electric-pickup-230-mile-epa-range-68-mpge/

The base version of the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup, which starts at $40,000, has received an official EPA rating with an estimated range of 230 miles and 68 MPGe.

Ford is preparing to start production and deliveries of the F-150 Lightning, an electric pickup truck, to help accelerate the electrification of the massive segment of the auto industry in the US.

The automaker grabbed a lot of headlines by announcing that the Ford F-150 Lightning would start at $40,000, with a range of up to 300 miles. When the company opened up the F-150 Lightning configurator, we got a better idea of how the different options are going to work.

We found out that the base version at $40,000 gets an estimated range of 230 miles (370 km) on a single charge, but if you want the bigger battery pack with 300 miles of range, Ford makes you get a bunch of other options that brings the price up to $74,000.

Now, the EPA window sticker for the F-150 Lightning Standard Battery pack has leaked, and it shows that Ford achieved the expected range of 230 miles and it received an efficiency of 68 MPGe (via F150gen14):

Rivian R1T R1S F-150 Lightning official EPA range figures revealed via window stickers f150-lightning-window-sticker-epa-m

The electric pickup is obviously much more efficient than any other gas-powered pickup truck on the market by a long shot, but how does it compare to the only other electric pickup with an EPA rating?

According to the EPA test cycle, the Rivian R1T is about 2-3% more efficient overall by using 48 kWh to travel 100 miles, versus 49 kWh for the F-150 Lightning:

  • Rivian R1T combined efficiency: 70 MPGe
  • Ford F-150 Lightning combined efficiency: 68 MPGe
Interestingly, the F-150 Lightning is a little more efficient than the R1T (76 vs 74 MPGe), but a lot less efficient on highways (61 vs 68 MPGe).

Electrek’s Take
This is a big win for Rivian, because the base version of the F-150 Lightning should be more efficient with its smaller and lighter battery pack than the R1T, which is currently only offered with a bigger battery pack that gets 314 miles of range.

However, the Lightning is longer than the R1T with a 10-inch longer wheelbase, but they are both similar in size otherwise. You would think that the much smaller battery pack would make a bigger difference, but apparently not.

But the good news is that they are both way more efficient than their gas-powered counterparts, and a lot of buyers are going to be looking their way if gas prices stay that high.

Will be curious to see what Ford comes up with when they switch to a dedicated EV truck platform in a couple years.

Thank you for this information. This puts a similarly equipped Ford Lightning in the same price class as an R1T. I have been concerned that Ford and Chevrolet would run away with the Etruck market with their established manufacturing capabilities.

Every mention of "$40,000 F150 Lightning" should be required to have a unicorn or some other symbol/notification that informs people that Ford isn't actually manufacturing them and it's a distant dream at best.

I made an instant reservation the second the truck dropped and still was only to "maybe you'll get it in 2023, who knows!" commitment on the $40,000 truck. Cancelled that reservation, guess I'm getting an R1T.

Ford makes a truck that will cost most of us at least $60,000 if not $70,000 and will go north of that if you get what you really want, fast. I really really really really hate when people talk about a $40,000 Lightning more than I ever hated hearing about a $35,000 Model 3. This feels more dishonest.

Just like talk of the low cost cyber truck or whatever that some journalists often mention. I read the CNBC article on the F150’s range yesterday, IMO it was also cringe worthy because they only focus on the range, making the Hummer EV the winner???

It is an EV specific platform. They just slapped the same/similar body on it.

Building off the EPA range, they now have FAQ associated with DCFC. The standard range is limited to 120kw peak charging, and the extended range is 155kw.

I still can't figure out how they managed this. Both are less than what the MME does with a smaller battery.

I get that. What I had read was that Ford planned to build them like this for a few years then release a Lightning that was "redesigned" as an EV from the ground up. That could obviously be wrong though... people love them some F-150s.

Yeah, I've seen the same. It will be interesting to see where they end up with that while maintaining their ICE truck. I think they're really earning value by keeping them compatible.

The opportunity to order the base 40 k truck with a 20-24 week delivery window was there in my first wave email. You will see plenty of pro models on the road long before you see any R1T Explorer or Max packs
