The first time I used my adapter it didn't work. A vehicle reboot solved that issue. I spent 15 min with Rivian support to figure that out. Hopefully it works well for you.
I actually thought of trying prior to the 1st trip, now for sure. Did you resolve with Rivian over the phone ?

I would also recommend cross/checking the Tesla charger availability in the Tesla App just to be certain. If only 4 of 8 chargers (50% or fewer) charger spots are available, chances are that you will need to wait for someone to leave. This is because people typically position their Teslas every other charging space and you will need two adjacent spaces to charge your R1. There might sometimes be the odd instance where the charging slot on the end is open, then you only need to take up one charging space as long as there isn’t a curb preventing you from taking up the adjacent non-EV parking space.
Silly question, but if in the Tesla app DOESN‘T state “adaptor or NACS port required“, this would mean incompatible …correct ?

Yes, but it took a while. They didn't know the resolution right away.

Some Tesla chargers have built in CCS adapters.

this is correct and to be clear, the Tesla App will NOT show incompatible charging stations in the “Charge your other EV” map. The older Tesla SC stations (version 2, 150kw) do not work with CCS vehicle adapters. Also some newer version 3 Tesla SC stations were never opened up to CCS, for whatever reason.

Thank you, very helpful. Will this do the same in the car's Nav ? I had all types of chargers selected and it wants to navigate to those "others", no Tesla. But in the app you suggested, seems lots of the Tesla chargers are available.
If you have all of them selected then it’s going to pick the closest or most convenient one(s) for your route….at this point I limit that filter to Rivian and Tesla only

I stopped by a Tesla charging station that happened to be on my way. It was not on my R1S navigation. I tried it and it worked one time with the Rivian NACS adapter, but failed a few times (got "waiting on charger"). I called support and was told that the adapter will only work with version 3 and 4 charging stations, which shows on the navigation.

For whatever reason, the earlier version charging let me charge station once, but I will not be counting on charging there moving forward.

It was my understanding that the version 2 chargers would never work because they are missing the hardware/software to communicate with CCS vehicles.

I have been to some Tesla SC stations where there was a combination of version 2 and 3 chargers at the same SC location. Maybe that was the case. You can tell the difference by the thickness of the charging cable. The version 2 are much noticeably thicker.

Have you or others seen more reports of this happening? I got my adapter a couple of weeks ago, but haven't gotten around to test it at a nearby compatible SC. It sounds like I will need to just in case as I am planning road trip with my R1S in the summer.

I have heard about different kinds of issues. I would definitely test it before your trip. Additionally, a few weeks ago I had a Tesla SC work for me one day and the very next day not work. The error message was "Payment error". Rivian customer service told me to delete and re-add my credit card. But that didn't resolve it. I ended up having to use the Tesla app to charge. And since I hadn't used it before I had to create an account and add a payment method to that app. Also, in the Tesla app, make sure to add your specific Rivian model. When I first used the Tesla app it didn't recognize the SC I was at. After I added my R1T, it recognized the SC and let me charge. Just be prepared and know something may not work exactly like it should.

I will say that the navigation is super frustrating to use during a road trip in terms of selecting the 'right' Tesla charger. During our Christmas road trip to Michigan there was a LOT of fiddling I had to do with changing the destination SOC in order to hit a couple stations in Ohio. It kept trying to get me to go to Findlay, OH (8 v3 stations) instead of another location in West Chester, OH (12 v4 stations). I wish there was a way to prioritize v4 stations or a certain minimum number of chargers.

If you have a specific charging station you want to use, just manually add it to your route. It will use that as a charging stop and add other stops before and after as necessary. I tend to travel like this, put my final destination address in and also manually program in the next one or two charging stops that I plan on using. This works equally well with both the Rivian and Tesla navigation systems.

Did you find a location with V2 and V3 that works for NACS? I have not seen any mixed sites that were NACS compatible.

There is a station in Indio, CA that had 10 V2 stations, a year or 2 ago they added 36 V3 station beside them, the station has open chargers all of the time but is not NACS compatible.

Would be a great location to open up because the area gets very crowded during the music festivals and other big events and is really lacking in CCS chargers.

I have never noticed this while charging the Rivian on long road trips. I only noticed this while charging the Tesla.
