I just returned from France and noted lots of chargers in Paris, less in Normandy and Brittany. The one thing that struck me was they have plugs not cables with plugs on them like we do here. I wondered what the forum members thought of that. I worry that some criminals will decide to start clipping cables off chargers to sell the copper for scrap. I also think that having your own HD cable on board might solve some cant-get-to-the-parking-spot issues. Comments?

The copper theft notion is a stretch.

this looks like a great solution - gone are the days of worrying if the connector is broken, etc.

It sounds like a great idea to prevent vandals from damaging charging stations.

I'm sure the ports still get broken.

My brother in law is a utility electrician and has found what remains of people who have tried to remove copper from substations.

I've heard all sorts of things about copper theft, and have seen people by the river burning the insulation off wire to get the copper.

The reason for having plugs not cables isn't copper theft.

oh, certainly. but there's less chance of damage than with a cable and connector.

Pics look like Level 2. With Level 3 the problem that immediately comes to mind is that the jumper would have to incorporate the liquid cooling circuit as well as the electrical circuit.. It would solve the copper theft problem though.

Thieves don't need to put themselves at risk of electrocution any longer when a 2"X4"X8' is $7 and not electrified. They just steal the framing wood from the jobsite instead.
