The Edmunds test is useless for range. It’s OK for efficiency. Almost everyone wants to know “road trip” range, not “how long can I Uber in the city” range. Edmunds gives you more of the latter. Even EPA won’t give you road trip range: they mix in city results, which on EVs increases the final number. On ICE cars blending in city range decreases EPA, which is why you’re more likely to meet your ICE EPA range on a road trip.

Rivians are boxy cars. 30 mph vs 70 makes a huge difference. As does temperature. Rivian needs to add a heat pump, stat.

80 F is probably about optimal temp for the Rivian. Batteries are the most efficient when they are warm and A/C is still pretty efficient. Air density is lower so less wind resistance. Hotter than that and they probably need to expend energy to keep the battery cooler too.
Lithium Batts want to be exactly 83 F

I have 21” highways on my R1T, made a couple of dozen trips between LA & SD always in conserve, I drive between 70&80 and have never gotten over 285 actual on the trip meter, even considering all of the latest updates. 100%,full charge shows me starting at 351, never drained it below 5%! 330 is a stretch..🤔

Where did you get the info that the test was entirely in conserve mode? I did not see that in the article?
Edmunds states they always test in the most economical mode.

Beginning with 2023 R1S models built after January 2023, Rivian implemented countermeasures to the driver-side floor pan to improve occupant safety in front crashes.

Some would call that the ultimate "early adopter tax" -- or just the price to pay for Meridian Audio, Wood headrest trim, and 12v outlets.

Only (partially) kidding, of course.

Not die, just have slightly mangled feet. Wonder why it is different from R1T, everything should be the same in this area. I guess the shorter wheelbase and similar center of gravity height could see more weight transfer in the impact?

I was just joking lol. But I don't think it's a fix unless they came up with something to adjust driver's right front intrusion/absorbtion post redesign that can be a add on vs a new component.

Older cars crash worse than newer models, you don't see companies adjusting accordingly. Standard operating procedure, BAU.
