Anyone have any idea if Rivians will charge at more than 12A using the TT-30 adapter you can get with this? In theory a TT-30 should be able to provide 2.88kW, but other cars limit the 120V throughput. Can't find any reliable info on whether or not Rivian does this.

youre using the wrong adapter. Rivians will easily charge at 24A with the correct adapter

In my video testing I was getting 2.7 on my Rivian R1T with the TT-30 adapter.

You can absolutely charge at 24A with the TT-30, I did it at an RV park last year, but was obviously using a different EVSE than this.

Interesting there's no NEMA 14-30 adapter. Does the unit automatically change settings depending on the adapter installed such that a TT-30 would limit to 24A automatically to make it more user-friendly?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Exactly what I wanted to know.

From my perspective, there are major differences between a German-made, IP67 rated, durable EVSE built to UL standards and a Chinese-made TT-30 to 14-50 adapter plugged into a less expensive EVSE if it's being left outside while camping several days at a time and potentially being kicked around/ walked over. Might not be worth the money to everyone, but I would rather pay the extra and feel easier about it not busting before the end of the weekend.

We'll have a 14-30 adapter at some point next year, but I don't have the official timeline yet.
But, yes, the J+ BOOSTER 2 does automatically recognize the adapter and sets the limit accordingly. You then have the ability to manually adjust the Amps lower.

You've taken the words right out of my mouth. The J+ BOOSTER 2 is not for everyone, as we all have different needs and place values on those needs. It is certainly for those people who place a high value on quality, safety and durability.

I should add that we do have a great 2-year warranty. If you run into any issues, just contact us and we will do everything we can to make it right.

When I saw it get run over by a WW2 tank I was sold 😎

it’s not cheap but then again I firmly believe that….most of the time… you get what you pay for. There are less expensive chargers. I reviewed one and it works great….but….i can tell you that it wouldn’t stand up to any abuse at all. Think dropping or accidentally running it over etc. it might see frequently when camping or on off road adventures.

Something else to know is that you can make other chargers work with various adapters, but they do not automatically adjust the charge rate and so they could potentially overload the circuit or be unsafe.

One incident where you have a broken charger and can’t charge your truck could be very costly. So its worth it for the piece of mind If you ask me.

It’s a nice unit and with the Rivian being an adventure vehicle a durable charger like the J+ Booster 2 is a good pairing IMO.

In the end though only you can determine if it passed your cost/benefit analysis.

Is the temperature monitoring only on the internals of the unit, or does each adapter also have temperature monitoring on the NEMA plug?

The temperature monitoring is on the internals of the unit as well as on several of the NEMA adapters we have. We have scheduled releases of the (J+ Celcius) on all of the NEMA adapters in early 2025.
