Theoretically, gearguard videos can be downloaded to external USB storage via the ports in the center storage area. I say theoretically because I have tried two different USB thumb drives formatted to FAT32, per instructions, with no luck. The system does not see that I have something plugged in. Admittedly, the drives are not native USBc, but have been connected via USB3 to USBc adapters that have worked with my Galaxy 21 Ultra 5g and my Windows 11 desktop. Just for the heck of it, I ordered a USBc thumb drive to see if, for some reason, that might work.

Anybody have any luck with downloading videos to an external USBc?

Is FAT32 the right partition type? I would have thought such a modern product would at least be exFAT.

Does Rivian provide a list of drives they’ve actually tested with? Usually things like this have a recommended list

I really laughed at this one. How does the software not create the required folder.

Did you create the proper folder?

Yep, the folder makes no difference...unless for some reason the system doesn't like my adapter (which works fine on Android and Windows USBc ports)...kinda stumped....and the drive in question is a 128gb, so meets that requirement. Just wondering if anyone has actually successfully copied a video...

BTW...I do have a sufficiently large fat32 thumb drive, but good luck trying to format as Fat32 on a new one. Current:
Rivian R1T R1S downloading Gearguard video to USB C 1649224190228

If I go to reformat in Windows 11 my choices are NTFS or exFat:
Rivian R1T R1S downloading Gearguard video to USB C 1649224325077

I think Rivian may have really messed up on the Fat32 specification, particularly since Mac OS also supports exFat.

No luck getting it to work with multiple top grade Sandisk USB drives. Has anyone had success?

looks like you have to use a 3rd party tool to format anything larger than 32GB on windows. or use powershell

Personally I'd rather blame Microsoft here.

Well, that seems to be a common default  ,but I really don't see why Rivian chose Fat32 since exFat has been out for quite a while and I can't really fault Microsoft for not including a less than optimal format as an option. Some Linux systems use Fat32...maybe that's what's going on with Rivian.
