To avoid OP's nightmare, I'll look into an Uninsured Deer rider...
The first mistake I made was to not get out of the truck immediately after being hit to get the deer's insurance information.

I have had USAA (through my Dad) for years and so far so good. But since the Rivian was so new I decided to go with the Rivian partner insurance figuring they would be a relatively low resistance pathway should something go wrong. It didn't hurt that they will also cover the Rivian branded home charger if purchased at the same time as the truck on the same policy.
Sorry to hear about your troubles with USAA.

Sorry for all the negatives with USAA. I have been with them since 1966 and about 3 million over the road miles. Then there is their other insurance, the banking, the travel, the stock market and Oh, my wife's diamond back in the day. (I am happy that I receive an over 50 year rebate every year too). Several wrecked vehicles, the last one about a year and a half ago when I was attacked in a traffic circle and received over 5k in damage to the front of my new 2020 Ridgeline. My windshield camera recorded the whole event and all I did was send off the video and 2 months later my Ridgeline emerged from the body shop as good as new. Thats not to mention the new Enterprise Ford F-250 I got to drive while mine was in the shop. (Allstate was very apologetic and said that their driver had a different story). I have to say this last encounter with USAA could not have been smoother. We have 4 homes insured with them and they have paid damages incurred in the past with no issues.

So sorry for your ill treatment but I sure haven't had any issues since joining the company in 1966.

I dropped my entire USAA portfolio of policies about a year ago. I gave them an ultimatum to stop supporting the anti-military rhetoric spewed by the repugnant Tucker Carlson and made true on my threat.

Thank you for posting. I have USAA at the moment (I tend to switch up every few years as Insurance companies offer precisely zero benefits for being loyal and there are substantial benefits to shopping around) but will probably jettison them when the R1S comes in. My experience is that lots of mainstream insurance companies have a difficult time with new vehicles and from start-up companies. I will probably return to Chubb once I get the R1S. They seem to be pretty good at insuring new vehicles and with an expected R1S and Fisker Ocean next year, it will be too complicated for USAA!

I got a quote from Nationwide (Rivian’s insurance partner) and their quote for home, auto, and umbrella was competitive with USAA and the R1T. Because of USAA’s declining customer service and my own poor experience with their banking, I ended up moving all my insurance and banking services to other companies. I was with USAA for over 30 years. Sad to see the decline in their service.

I've had USAA my entire life and I have already gotten into an accident in my Rivian. I wasn't at fault, but USAA paid the repair and dealt with Uber (an uber driver hit me) on their side.

The one thing I had a slight problem with is that they didn't already work with the one and only Rivian certified repair shop in my area. They ended up taking care of it even though I couldn't get a quote from one of USAA's certified body shops.

Yes, most regular body shops won't touch EVs. I didn't know that until an accident. Of course those businesses will have to change.

This is part of the problem insurance companies are having with cars like Rivian and Tesla. Repairs don't fit their way of controlling costs. Geico has apparently decided to just pay as if you had damaged the Corolla.

Progressive was $485 for 6 months....USAA was $1k ($1k deductibles, no accidents/tickets in 5 years, 3 car policy, no teen drivers 25 yr member). How are you guys getting competitive rates?

I expect part of the problem is that every insurance underwriter in the country is trying to get through tens-of-thousands of claims from hurricane Ian.

It doesn't excuse the behavior, but it is an explanation.

I just had a claim through USAA for a stolen catalytic converter, and I believe the reason I didn't have issues is because I was able to use a USAA approved shop and go through their automated process. I don't think a real human even looked at my claim.

The challenge with a Rivian is that there's probably very little overlap between most insurers pre-approved shops and those that Rivian recommends. This is going to create a manual insurance process. In the best of times, this is an opportunity for miscommunication and delays. In the aftermath of a hurricane, it's a recipe for a complete clusterf***.

Has anyone posted claims experiences with Rivian insurance yet?

I haven't heard any horror stories yet with Nationwide (Rivian's partner insurance). I have GEICO right now, but don't plan to use GEICO with the Rivian due to poor reports from other threads. Once the other guys catch up (USAA, GEICO, Etc) it will likely be much more expensive to insure through them.

Just price shopped insurance for my new R1S between Rivian/Nationwide, Farmers, State Farm and AAA. I am bundling home/auto/umbrella and the by far the best pricing for the R1S in SoCal was with State Farm. I switched everything to State Farm.

I see no one yet, has taken into account the USAA Subscriber Savings Account rebate and for me the 50 years of patronage rebate that makes my auto insurance almost free.

Thanks for posting. I made the switch from usaa to the rivian insurance today. Rates for me were almost the same. For what they offer it's a no Brainer. 0 glass deductible, guaranteed rivian oem replacement parts, and will help with vehicle replacement if totalled.
