So I’ve got an August/September delivery window. Guide assigned - although he hasn’t offered me any concrete information. Just received an email from Tony Caravano saying we are ‘scheduled to receive an updated delivery window estimate in late August’. So I’m guessing the possibilty of an August delivery is a complete write off then! The lack of certainty and transparency with the delivery process is somewhat annoying - especially after 2.5yrs of waiting.

There's a good chance your vehicle is going to end up selected for production soon if it hasn't been already. If you went back to "processing estimate" from making no changes, you should reach out to your guide and ask what the deal is.

I like how Jeep (and I suspect other companies) deal with this. When my wife ordered her JL, she was able to track progress through various stages of production and delivery once a VIN was assigned. And this seemed to happen a couple months before delivery. Pretty cool.

EDIT: By "track" I mean log into a website and see a precise status. No guides to muddle the process.

We’ve been ‘processing estimate’ since June 15 when the Guide was assigned.

So it's been over a month, have you asked them if they could give you more information since then? Squeaky wheel gets the grease and all. You could probably request access to the R1 shop as well if you haven't.

I’ve texted our Guide. He’s a nice guy, just can’t tell me anything. I had Shop access but never saw my exact config. I‘m happy with Aug/Sept as I still need to sell our Traverse (or trade it against the R1S). It’s just the lack of information/certainty that does my head in.

Wondering, do you have the underbody shield as an option? I was the same as you but once I took off the underbody my order, I got my Vin a few days later.

Your post reminded me when we ordered our 2005 Mini Cooper. At the time, all the dealers had marked up the vehicle by both market adjustment AND aftermarket upgrades (custom wheels, tint and so on) that made sub $20K car into over $30K. It was very popular but my wife really like the vehicle for her commute.

We ordered the basic Cooper through the Costco auto program dealer with manual tranny, sports suspension and HID headlights with our colors. That was it for $18K, but we need to have it built in UK and wait for it about 9 months, since the demand was very high.

Thinking about it now, the Mini Cooper CRM was much better than Rivian's. They kept us up to date when the order was received at the factory, when the production started, send us a link to see the video of the complete production line (not necessarily our vehicle but how the vehicle was assembled and built at the factory), when it was completed, and shipped to US. Once arrived at West Coast port, we were notified again with an estimated date window when it will reach the dealer. This was done all email without any request by us. Once the vehicle got to the dealer, then we got a call to pick up the vehicle.

For several years thereafter, Mini kept sending us fun Christmas gifts every year, periodic invite to events and rallies to participate in.

Like all BMWs, after hitting 80K miles, monthly repair became too high so we got rid of it for 2008 Saab 9-3 (that too is a money pit but our kid drive it now still).

So the notion of guide, is neat to have a single point of contact with Rivian. The problem I have found is that the guide isn't very insightful, much like customer support. Furthermore, they are stretched so thin that it has a large lag time between an inquiry and response.

If Rivian can do some of the things, Mini did for us, by sending automated email as the vehicles pass through major processing points (e.g., ready to build, being built, shipped, arrived, now at SC), the guides will be freed up quite a bit and able to service customers better.

I preordered about a week before you. My config is the same as yours but with 20” AT and the underbody shield.

I received the confirm configuration email early last week and my status changed to processing estimate. I figured I was getting close so I called CS later in the week to request a first mile drive as I have not stepped foot in a Rivian yet. During our discussion she indicated that I had a guide and a VIN assigned. I went ahead and scheduled my first guide call for yesterday at 10am. I got the “time to begin the purchase process” email around 6:30am yesterday and I did the first three steps right away so there was no delay for shipping info.

I go for the first mile drive at the Orlando SC tomorrow and hopefully I will be getting the “your vehicle has left the factory” e-mail shortly. I decided to have it shipped to Orlando and I will pick it up there. I didn’t see a need to pay $1000 to have it delivered to my home when the SC is only 2.5 hours away. I will be excited to drive it for a few hours!

I am now working on generating a list of accessories I will want for the new ride!

Hang tight! I’m sure you are getting close!

I think the recent guide assignment is a sign that your S is probably being built soon. That seems to be a pattern we have seen before. Some guides are great and others could do better, but now that you have one assigned I would politely bug them to get you a specific status.

The delivery window just before my window was starting actually moved mine out another month, but then I was told the truck was built already. Unfortunately I had PPF in my order and that was holding things up and even my guides didn't know that was the cause and it sat there for 3 months waiting on that. So they have limited visibility into the process too.

I have PPF in my order too and i fear thats the issue. Debated removing it but didn’t in case it delayed things even more. I‘ve seen a few with PPF in the Shop so it is being applied to vehicles. The first hold up was when i added a compact spare. That pushed the delivery back 6 months. Funny but I never removed it but it’s no longer in my configuration…..

If yours is delayed I would be willing to bet it's the PPF. I had no idea what was going on and my delivery window was basically passed by a couple days when they sent me this email saying they had removed it from my order. After that email it only took basically 3 weeks and I was driving my truck.

I got the same email from Tony today. "You are scheduled to receive an updated delivery window estimate in late August." My account still says "Estimated delivery June-July 2023." If I can believe Tony, best case scenario will be a new estimate of September-October.
