Did someone say Armor? Real Ballistic Armored (Bulletproof) R1S Tri Motor in production process...

I was surprised to see a section labeled "Armor" here but I'm not seeing actually armored Rivians. We have on in the process of being outfitted with ballistic glass & armor panels to the entire thing will be rated to withstand 5.56/308/7.62x39 etc.

Will update with more photos once it's complete. Likely a one of a kind project here.

Update #2 They are putting in the door "overlaps" that will provide overlap coverage between the ballistic windows and the ballistic resistant door pillars should a round be fired in between the door and the pillar. There's a pink foam that covers the steel and then a nice interior stitched naugahyde is put in over that. Some armor has been installed in the rear doors seen in the last photo here, but the rest will not be installed until the ballistic glass has been installed/placed. More updates to come!

I'm curious about this... Do you do any consulting with Rivian (or have access to documentation) so that functionality is retained or to prevent something bad from happening in the conversion? Or are things obvious enough (what to touch/not touch) when you do the work?

So the work is being done by a company called "Armormax" I know they have done many Teslas and work with Tesla. I know they have done at least one R1T. I am not sure if they work directly with Rivian or not.

negative 400 lbs. Only people filled with helium can drive it.

Around 800 lbs. the heaviest part is the glass. The ballistic panels that they use are very light weight.

As to this section of the forum, I think the anticipated context was offroad armor, not ballistic armor - but this is still a pretty cool project none the less. I always wonder who spends money on things like this... and then I thank my lucky stars that I'm just a nobody and don't have a need for that kind of protection!

Unfortunately even if you're not a high profile target, you can still be the target of random violence. We have had many road rage shooting incidents here. It's pretty sad.

Exactly i'm a nobody but if I had the money I would want a bullet proof truck. Only downsides would be cost and weight.
