Hmmm... I had thought I'd dodged this particular bullet when I contacted Rivian back in March and they sent me a copy of my CVSR stating "Attached you will find the Clean Vehicle Seller Report that was submitted to the IRS when you took delivery. Let us know if you need anything else!" However, when I checked just now the IRS is showing the dreaded "we have no record of your purchase..." message for 2024 - I bought my R1T in July 2024.

I dropped my tax return in the mail yesterday and had assumed Rivian was being truthful in their March 20 email to me. So, it's too late for me to include other docs like the purchase agreement, etc. I did include a copy of the CVSR Rivan sent me, but I doubt they'll be impressed since that's not the same as the dealer submitting it through the portal.

I reached back out to the service center replying to the email they sent on March 20 asking them to urgently address this, but who knows if they can or will. I'll follow up with a call shortly to see if that gets things moving.

If you have a copy, it might work, just as You giving it to the IRS instead of them. That's one option on HR Block, attaching a copy. I still haven't got mine, sounds like it was just sent to the one guy at HQ who submits them.

Well, my circumstances are different and complicated by my purchase of this vehicle being through my LLC - so technically it's not a personal purchase and it shouldn't even need a CVSR. The SC said in a call earlier today that they couldn't submit the CVSR in my case for that reason.

I also needed to include a bunch of forms I've never used before like 3800, 8889, 8936, and 8936 Schd A. Reading through the IRS docs for those was more than enough to make my brain hurt. Supposedly I'm entitled to a full $7500 credit since it was a commercial purchase, but that part of the IRS forms was also very confusing and so I went with $3750 which was on the CVSR Rivian gave me. I may need to file an amended return to get the rest, or it may blow up in my face because I've never used those forms before and I honestly don't know I did it right even with the H&R Block software saying things looked OK.

Why does it need to be this hard?

Well, I just learned even if you have pre-price hike voucher, that's doesn't apply to monroney label for MSRP pricing for tax year 2024. Some point in 2023 they changed their "sticker" pricing based on IRS guidance.

For me, MSRP is $90k and that's the price they would submit to IRS. Since it doesn't apply, I can't get the credit. Fucking great. Hindsight I should've leased and bought out, uuuugh.

I have like $1k left on my 2022 taxes I can apply it to though. So at least I have that going for me, which is nice.

A glimmer of hope for some perhaps...

My initial Fed Return got rejected (within 15 min of e-filing) due to the IRS not having any record of my Clean Vehicle (2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe which the Jeep dealer admitted they failed to register with the IRS) purchase as well. I fought with my Jeep dealership to push them to register it on the IRS portal after it reopened recently for those who's dealer never registered it 3-days after the sale. Two weeks ago Jeep told me they did upload my sale info, but even 7 full days later it still said "pending" on their dealer portal and it still showed "We have no record that you purchased a Clean Vehicle in 2024" on my IRS webpage. I read on on forum where one poster said screw it, enough time has lapsed and e-filed again. This time it did not get rejected which meant his vehicle was indeed finally registered with the IRS, but our personal IRS account pages have not been updated. So, I waited another 3 days making it 10 days in total after my dealer sad they registered my Jeep on the IRS portal. I hit "Send" and anxiously awaited for another rejection, but this time... I was happily surprised by a "The IRS has accepted your Federal Return" then about 4 hours later a similar "accepted" email from NY State as well.

TLDR- if Rivian has said they registered your vehicle with the IRS and enough time has gone by try to e-file again even if your personal IRS page still has no record of your Clean Vehicle purchase. You'll know in about 15 min either way!

Good luck!!

You should* have gotten the credit applied as cash towards lease.

In other news, I learned I only have $138 left on 2022. I forgot I amended to claim that $1k with electrical upgrades necessary for an EVSE.

Does anything have any ideas for other ways to claim?
