Rivian is aware of the situation. I just had them contact me yesterday and indicate they were providing the information to the IRS for my credit to be issued. This only happened after I sent the following to a couple of folks at Rivian that I had previously interacted with:

I appreciate your help with this. Please read the inserted article...It appears the problem related to the EV tax credit was very widespread and the IRS has opened up a portal to "dealers" to allow them to correct the problem related to the clean vehicle report issue. However, Rivian needs to file the report to the IRS to correct things. See below:

EV buyers who missed out on their tax credits now have a fix from the IRS

After some car owners were not able to claim the EV tax credit this spring, the IRS has created a fix, according to the trade group representing auto dealers. As NPR previously reported, some electric car shoppers across the country discovered this spring that they couldn't get the EV tax credit they expected, because their car dealer had not correctly reported their 2024 purchase to the IRS through a new online portal. And because the reports had to be entered within three days of the sale, there appeared to be no way for dealerships to fix the oversight belatedly. But now the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) says there's a solution. In an alert to its members, the group says the IRS is now allowing dealers to report sales "for qualifying clean vehicle credit transactions that occurred in 2024." Essentially, the 3-day requirement is being waived. The option to report sales retroactively was opened for testing as of Tuesday, March 25, and will officially be rolled out today, the group said. "It is unclear how long the functionality will remain open but, according to the IRS, dealers can begin using the portal now," NADA informed dealers. A spokesperson for the IRS would not comment on the record but did not dispute the information in the NADA bulletin. In its message to members, NADA — which did not offer any additional comment to NPR, and did not comment for NPR's original story — indicated that in addition to consumers, some auto dealers were also affected by this problem. Some dealers had provided the tax credit to shoppers up front, a new option in 2024, but did not report the sale to the IRS in a timely fashion. In those cases, it was the dealer, not the shopper, missing out on thousands of dollars they expected to receive. NADA says it "advocated aggressively" for the IRS to introduce a remedy, and also indicated that members of Congress were aware of the issue thanks to messages received from their constituents. In order to benefit from the reopened portal, taxpayers will need to work with the car dealer who originally sold them the car. Only a dealer can sign up for the system, called the ECO portal, and submit sales to the IRS.

And made even worse because a regular car dealership registers your vehicle on the IRS portal the day you purchase your vehicle, you as the owner don't have to sign anything to have the dealer register your vehicle on the IRS portal. They use the Bill of Sal as the official proof of sale doc. Why does Rivian require the owner sign a separate doc other than the Bill of Sale? It seems like they created a problem where there was none...
I agree with you. When I relooked at the unsigned CVSR that Rivian sent me the other day I noticed the first 5 pages were the IRS Form 15400 (the only signature was from Rivian). The last page has a Rivian letterhead and was the one they wanted me to sign to say everything was correct on the IRS Form 15400. The point is, they did not really need my signature to send in the Form (or in this case add the information on the CVSR / IRS Form 15400) to the IRS ECO Portal.

I had a text exchange with the delivery guys in the Portland OR service center
Disregard previous request, I found their number: 971-772-5462

And here's another: +1 917-423-5262

I normally wouldn't drop numbers here, but I'm pissed.

There is no IRS form you have to sign, and ironically, the Rivian form is just to confirm you received a copy... Which if you're like a large group of us you DIDN'T receive a copy! So why would you sign??

Here's the form they submit.

I just received the phone from the Rivian. Person which called asked me a few questions and told me that he's gonna send the tax document to IRS right away. If I see on the IRS website that I qualify for the tax credit, I'll send my tax return Monday, if not - I'll extend it for a few days and send when I see it.

Were they from your delivery SC or HQ? Keep us posted! I texted my delivery SC today, fucking crickets again. Might take Monday off to pay them a visit.

I picked up my truck in Atlanta, but yesterday I was in Duncan, SC because of the last recall. I asked them about that tax issue, but they told me they have nothing to do with sales, they only service vehicles.
Phone from Rivian was from Michigan. Caller said the only way to reach him is to call first customer service at 1-888 RIVIAN1 and they'll contact him.
I did cal that 888 number, several times last week, also talked to them using chat on Rivian.com

What's their name, or department to ask for? If you don't feel comfortable dropping here, can you DM me it? Portland is ignoring my texts and calls.

DM sent. I asked the guy I spoke to if I can share his number on forums, but he told me that he can only work with information he's receiving from people who are reachable by calling that toll free number.

@Dr. van Nostrand @BettyWhite @Doc @polonus

Have any of you had luck with the Clean Vehicle Credit showing on your IRS account? Supposedly Portland filed the CVSR today, but mine is still being rejected and nothing in my IRS account.

If you did have luck submitting after a previous rejection, how long was it between Rivian taking action and IRS acceptance?

I have not seen it in my IRS account yet. I received confirmation from Rivian on Thursday that they had an internal ticket to have the VIN placed in the IRS ECO system. I assumed it may need to update overnight but was still not in my IRS account today. Crossed fingers for tomorrow or I will have to file anyway. How fast are you seeing the rejections from the IRS?

Have not seen it yet in my IRS account. With all the turmoil due to DOGE cuts it wouldn't surprise me that there's going to be a lag for things to get processed.....even though it should be instantaneous in a computerized system.

I am filling out form for the extension for my return, waiting for IRS site to show my credit. It could be several weeks.

I use HR Block and I get the rejection email within 5-10 minutes.

Info from their website:

  • File your extension with H&R Block Online by logging into your account, clicking the Overview tab, then clicking “File an Extension” in the bottom right corner.

Quick and easy, already done!

This is my first time ever having "trouble" with taxes, part of me feels like a piece of crap for extending, the other part is still sore at Rivian for making this such a difficult process, and the last part is annoyed at giving the govt an interest free loan on MY money.
