Don't be sad. I put down around $3k for the Tesla Model Y on reveal day. During the time it took for a for sale product to be available Tesla stock went up over 10x. I could have otherwise had that $3k invested in the stock and turned into $90k+.
It still worked out well though because I already had thousands and thousands of Tesla shares purchased from 9years back. Fully retired 3.5yrs ago early at age 49. Still a Tesla fanboy and still holding all my stock (haven't sold a single share), but I actually never bought one. I was going to buy the Y Juniper refresh but passed and instead bought an R1S. I pick it up March 7th.

Happy for your financial successes, but irrelevant to this thread. BTW..not sad, but rich

I am past chasing the BBD with respect to cars. It is even worse with EVs as they are like buying an iPhone and almost instantly become yesterday's tech so the depreciation hit is massive. I can handle the hit, it is just the principle of not lighting money on fire any more than necessary. Leasing might make sense for many in that situation.

Thankfully I was able to write my truck off through my side gig. That helped a lot but it also put some boundaries on how much I could spend to make sure I was within IRS guidelines.
All interesting, but irrelevant to this thread. Be well

Let’s agree to disagree about whether “whining on the internet” or “cancel it or get a Tri Max“ is not telling me how to spend my money. Hostile. Every forum, on every topic has guys that post with more hostility that they realize. Yours was a perfect example. Re-read your post and PERHAPS say, “I could have worded that differently”. Or not..I’ve done precisely what I think you did..that’s why I recognize it. Peace brutha!

I am also in line for a quad - not so much for the power, but for some other potential features we don’t know about. Are there any good threads that speculate on this (like a running board option)? If not, shall we indulge here?!?!

I hear ya’..fewer processors, lighter weight..the light ash wood..pure street tires. Should be amazing! 0-60 in 2.5 won’t suck either.

If you look at the "explore" area of the Quad on the Rivian website, there is a titled "Customizable tuning". If you hover over it, you get a few details. Any idea what the term "pedal map" refers to? Is this feature unique to the Quad or is it something you get on existing models?

One lesson we learned a long time ago is: Never invest in a launch edition of anything. You're essentially a test pilot for a science experiment.

YEARS ago, we found a Saturn Vue Hybrid - THE FIRST IN SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND!!! Woo-HOO!! AIN'T WE ON THE CUTTIN' EDGE!!! They have us a BUTT load of money for our Ford Expedition on trade. The mild hybrid system worked great! ...for the first 8,000 or so miles... then it didn't. Weekly service center visits for "unrelated" issues that seemed to resolve the system malfunctions. Then belts and pulleys began shredding and falling off the I-4 motor. Around 60k miles, the hybrid system just gave up the ghost; by then it was JUUUUUUUUST out warranty. And then finally around 70k miles, the AC compressor fell to the road (thankfully, in front of the house) from rot in the engine compartment. Lesson learned. Traded that in on a Nissan.

I was seriously jonesing for a Rivian R1T LAUNCH edition when my husband pulled out a photo of the Saturn and drummed his fingers on my desk. That quelled the dream. Put the wishes on hold; instead I watched how the company was doing, watched every YouTube video on Rivian (early reviews did not instill a sense of excitement; really felt more like I dodged a very expensive bullet), watched the Gen2 go into development. Positive reviews! Intel on financing enticed us to do a hard explore and ultimaltly push the button to reserve. DId not opt for ALL the new motor technology for our R1T - kept it basic and routine; things that have been tried and true - Dual motor / Large battery. No other frills (well, the electronic glass roof...). Felt that the Tri-Max and (soon Quad) are too new a technology - will wait until those are baked into the ecosystem before considering.

Considering, you say? Yes. Husband wants his own EV. Going to the NY auto show in April to scope out prospects, but something tells me that something in the RnS series could be a contender (we're looking at EOY 2025/2026 for a purchase).

Personally, I think he's love the size of the R1S; very much reminiscent of our old Eddie Bauer Expedition. That "Driving Air Force One" feeling. But the decision will be his. That (now), 10-year old Nissan Rogue has just been an incredibly good daily driver for him.

Actually, I have been thinking a lot about his recently.

Pure speculation, but maybe the Gen2 Quad delay is because along with the Quad they will release some major changes to the R1 platform. If all they are doing is adding a motor, what is taking so long? They are missing out on higher margin (I would think) sales with the delay.

What if they plan to release the Quad with native NACS? What if they plan to release the Quad with a 800V architecture? We know those things are coming "soon", so why not debut them in the Quad and charge a lot more to get those features first?

Of course, those features would roll into the other R1 models, but after existing inventory is used up. Sort of like how Tesla introduced the new Y and is selling it alongside the cheaper older model versions. Once those are gone, they will have lower priced "new" Y models (I am guessing).

I did the same last year, deposited

after the feedback of quality, I asked and received refund.

I will keep what I have until the warranty expires and seek another at that time .
