Hi Everyone -

Currently awaiting service center pickup of my truck.

I've made my way through five of eight steps ( still waiting on payment, doc upload and delivery schedule).

I reached out to my guide to ask that I be able to see the VIN at the SF service center before I send them money. Haven't heard back.

Anybody know if there is a way to see if my process is currently being held up by payment? I've heard of others not paying until pickup, which I would prefer given the issues I've heard about come time of pickup.

Also, strangely, my VIN ends in 65XX while my friend who had the literal identical spec delivered last week has a 72XX VIN. Seems to break the notion that VINs are incremental, unless my vehicle was built and then perhaps didn't pass QC or something?

The VINs could still be sequential coming off the line but that does not mean they are shipped from the lot in the same order.

Me thinks are trucks are coming in the same shipment. My truck was en route to SF last tuesday. It's also a limestone/b/but w/ 21" . My VIN 7050.

I have done all the steps. I even bought insurance and will eat the difference. I found great coverage for the R1T for 35$ a month. Wired them all the money, it changed nothing. You will still be stuck on step 8. SC has to sign off on the truck according to my guide.

I heading on vacation for 2 weeks and I'll just have to wait till I get back, unless a miracle happens in the next three days.

Costco! I had Tesla insurance for the last two years. Model y and 3 was 125 a month. Tesla won’t cover the rivian. Not in in “their” system

So now I have gap insurance plus standard coverage for the rivian and the Y for 78$ a month combined. Costco threw in free towing and a few other things for being an executive member.

I was getting insane quotes from rivian and others. Rivian wanted 250 for the same coverage and just for the rivian.

i didn’t check the vin, but do you know if your car had reached the service center by Saturday? I stopped by to see my LG R1T and there was a single limestone with 21s sitting next to my car. Could’ve been yours!

Oh man. It could be. I have been lazy about getting the truck. After going through the launch of the 3 and then Y. I’m trying to relax about getting the truck. I know it will come.

Why is your truck still at the SC?

It arrived last Friday, but because of the 3 day holiday, they needed a few days for PDI so they said the earliest I could pickup was this Saturday 6/4.

(As a fellow Tesla owner, I’m happy Rivian actually does a pre-delivery inspection, both my previous teslas were delivered dirty and with numerous issues.)

Yep early Y owner and I had to have a new steering wheel installed cause it had a huge slash across it.

I picked it up from the factory. Which is crazy that they missed it. Although they did come out to Big Sur and replace it.

Can’t wait for this truck.

My truck arrived at the service center yesterday but it won't be through QC until this weekend. IF it passes QC, my guide said I can pick it up next week. A few months ago I'd be pushing them to move faster, but with all the early issues I'd rather they take their time and do a thorough QC.

My delivery step is open and I could pick a date/time, but it'll just get manually canceled by my guide until the truck is ready.

FWIW…. Had some of the same questions for my guide. What he told me is Payment and Insurance won’t prevent the SC from reaching out to schedule delivery. Also, I was not getting any response from my guide so I called customer support to ask the questions. They referred me to my guide and I told them I was not getting a response. They contacted my guide and I got a call back in 5 mins. 🙂

Hope you get it soon!

Rivian has a huge bottleneck with deliveries at the moment. Tesla did too and actually quit doing PDIs, yes they used to do them early on, and eventually stopped with the dedicated delivery specialists and all that. It became an operation to deliver as many cars as possible to keep up with production. Problems? Defects? Damaged in transit? Whatever, just try and fix it after delivery.

QC at the factory became shit too. Early in the Model X days and then again in the Model 3 ramp up, Elon started sleeping on the factory floor. Which actually improved things, a little, but didn't make a huge impact.

I'm hearing/reading that the Model Y's rolling out of Austin are pretty damn good though...

Anyway, I'm hoping that Rivian finds a good solution to their delivery bottleneck. I just don't want to see them opt for Tesla's solution of eliminating the PDI process and ultimately letting customers self-deliver.

Suppose that is true. Strange part is status is "preparing vehicle" which gives me the impression they are actually still building it...maybe that is a false assumption and it is more of a catch all of a number of cases such as, waiting on a particular part, undergoing rework after failed QC, sitting on a lot in Normal.

It was just a bit surprising to see his VIN so much higher than mine given that we had already received and mine was nominally being built.

Awesome! Bunk mates on the journey across the states.

Good intel on the lack of change in status even after payment. I got a reply from my guide and she said no worries re waiting on payment AND/OR insurance.

I already did insurance, but am paying a hell of a lot more than you! Can you share the details on who you went with??
