To date, the federal government has largely ignored such societal downsides. Although pedestrian fatalities are surging in the US, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently declined to add pedestrian crashworthiness to its crash test ratings program, which could have penalized the biggest models. It appears EV's will get a 1000 lb credit, its not clear how many R1T's will be affected, maybe some configs are under 7,000 lbs?
