Range extender officially vaporware.

https://electrek.co/2025/05/07/tesla-never-make-cybertruck-range-extender-achieve-promised-range/

Musk followed up with a tweet: "Eliminated this wasteful spending of 16k for millions of buyers. Now that we have strong glue I increased efficiencies by twofold via a first of it's kind innovative double deckering system. After discounting the trucks to $6,969, another full cybertruck on top was cheaper. I wear many hats, now my trucks do too"

It'd be hilarious if it meant Tesla is releasing an actual higher range model. All those cybertruck fanboys who were in it for range are going to have to make a terrible decision to lose their asses on their foundation models and buy another overpriced garbage truck.

Talks about what we already know, but it's a solid perspective on the range extender and why it never made sense.

Because it's full of garbage already, does this constitute unlimited range?

Rivian itself walked back their Quad-Max plans? Adding additional cells to achieve range was always going to be an exercise in diminishing returns. What is most notable to me in this unfolding drama is how each company handled their change in plans.

Rivian pivoted to a multi-prong solution to reach their max range goals: reduce consumption through fewer motors and a more efficient electronics architecture, plus fewer additional cells. And they didn't attribute the solution/breakthrough to any one person. RJ didn't come out and say, "I did this. I did that. It's all ME". During gen2 launch, every single Rivian person said, "WE".

Now, look at Elmo's quote: "I increased efficiencies by twofold". Wow, really? Fire the entire company then. He can do it all, right? If he's the utmost expert on efficiencies and the ultimate polymath the human race has ever seen... why hasn't he fired them all? The rant, reeks of self-aggrandizing and overcompensation. As if he is attempting to rewrite the past. I bet you it was he who mandated the extender pack, against objection from people who are actually smart and knowledgeable (just like how they objected to CT's design). And he is now trying to make himself look like the hero.

I also 100% made up that quote as a joke, guess I was a bit too close to home with how Elon sounds :giggle:

What’s funnier than the range extender going away is that Elon is still promising the roadster.

What possible reason does Tesla have for not including autosteer in the Autopilot package? Seems like it all comes down to poor sales so they have to make money off the ones they do happen to sell.

https://electrek.co/2025/05/07/tesla-bait-and-switch-cybertruck-owners-wont-get-autosteer-feature/
Autosteer is a separate bit of coding in the other Teslas from "FSD". My bet is it wasn't transferrable to the CT (for some technical reason) and they thought they'd rather save some money than update it to implement it.

Even the house is ugly.

That's what a million dollars buys you in Austin? That house is 2K sq feet at most and I get that they were going for modern but they missed the mark by not going with any natural woods or elegant lighting to offset the brutalist structure.
