I would say the camera facing into the bed is nice. It also has some draw backs with looking through the glass you can get some glare or reflection. Still happy it is there tho

I voiced that concern last year, and we openly discussed it shortly thereafter, hence the glory hole option we have. I am going to put weatherstripping around it when I have time, and that will eliminate the glare.

Instead of sending you to a post in another thread about my Goodyear Territory AT's I am posting it here as it is very relevant to the topper.

So now for the non-GY tire specific content. Had a steady crosswind of 10-14 the entire way. The truck drove straight as an arrow. No buffeting from the topper. The efficiency is surprising so far. This was my longest run to date at one shot with the topper. I ran it for over 20 miles on the freeway so was able to really average out any peaks or valleys.

At this point, I feel pretty comfortable that it is pretty close to neutral with respect to efficiency on the highway and quite possibly helping.

For reference, my friend's truck, a Gen 1, dual motor large pack with the 21" Pirelli street tires, with the aero caps in, and a tonneau cover, is only slightly better (2.5 vs 2.6 mpk ~4.4% better) than my G1 quad with the Goodyear Territory ATs. The GY's are a lot more aggressive tread and according to Rivian they factor in at about a 5% hit over their other tire (22") on the Gen 2 Std trucks. I don't know how the efficiency compares from the 21" to the 22" wheels in the grand scheme of things.

I think it rides a bit better on low and lowest before. The truck seems a bit better balanced over the bumps with the extra weight in the back.

Overall, I am quite happy with it, but my earlier concerns remain. The scratched pieces, torn door seal, etc.

You can find the post here and I've copied it below the link as well:

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...ory-at-tires-saving.37522/page-31#post-785511

I had a pretty long run down a tollway today. It was about 74F, and the crosswind was 10-14 mph the entire way. I had about a 400-pound payload in the truck, too. The topper is about 200 pounds on its own.

I was in Conserve mode low and, according to the GPS, was driving between 70-71mph. Once again, the crazy TC reads a lower average speed. No AC or heat, I did have the fan on and the seat fan going as well.

For reference, a friend of mine with his Gen 1, dual large, with the 21" aero wheels typically gets 2.6 mpk at 70 indicated. Which is a bit slower than a true 70 mph. So I am not far off of what he gets with the pretty efficient 21's and he has a tonneau cover too.

Just thought I'd throw this out here. It is my efficiency with various tires and configurations as tracked by Electrafi.

The first tires are the factory 21" Pirellis. The tires for the next 3 are the Goodyear Territory ATs 275/60/20 which I put on just before the coldest weather an snow hit in very early January but with the tire setting for the Rivian using the same as the 21" Pirellis as they were fairly close in size.

The next set of numbers is with the correct config for the tires in the Rivian. Lastly it is with that same config and the topper on the truck.

As a side note, the Pirellis were well broken in and had about 8k miles on them. The Goodyears were brand new and took about 1,000-1,500 miles to really break in.

For those who want the results in MPK, here it is,

Pirelli - 2.38 mpk
Territory AT - 2.28
AT correct config - 2.45
AT w/topper - 2.59

Some things to note is that I ran the heat a lot when I first put on the GY's. When I was able to set the correct config, not much heat or AC. Now with the topper on, it has been hot enough to run the AC a fair amount. I pretty much ran AC all day. I also used Conserve mode a lot today as well but had some pretty strong winds the last few days with the topper on.

Based on that, it looks like the topper might be helping the efficiency. It is too early to draw that conclusion. I do drive a lot of the same routes with similar conditions. If I had to make an early read on any efficiency impact, it clearly isn't killing my range. That alone is a big win as far as I'm concerned.

I guess one of the best things I can say about it is I almost never know it is there while driving the truck. If anything, I think it balances out the truck better with a little more weight in the rear when I am using the lowest suspension mode.

When I get a chance for calmer conditions, I may try and do some additional 70 mph runs to test efficiency to better understand the impact. Absolutely no issues with noise, humming, vibration, or stability issues so far. If it wasn't for my shipping/packing damage, I'd almost give it 10/10.

Installed the cut-to-fit BedRug mat, I’d put it at decent but not great …

I took my Ram 1500 and cut it to fit last week. Saved me a few bucks since I never got around to selling it when I sold the truck.

I got mine! LOVE IT! Penninsula Trucking had it squirreled away somewhere. A quick call from AutoFitPro and it was here the next day. Thanks AutoFitPro!
Took two of us 4 hours to put it together, and me another 2 hours getting it fitted properly onto vehicle. Wear gloves when dealing with the sealant.
This is very well built. Perhaps it's my imagination but things seem quieter and the ride softer. No appreciable change that I can tell in efficiency.
I did have to cover the tie down hooks with the mounting hardware. But I will probably buy some hooks later.
HAPPY DUDE!

Glad you finally got it. I am about 500 miles in with it and overall very happy. It is definitely my second best mod after Comma.Ai and would buy it again.

I am looking forward to ordering this, when the China trade/tariff situation is finally sorted out. And I am looking forward to adding Comma to my truck, but it is lower on the list than a topper and an enclosed cargo trailer.

I was like you and concerned about the tariff situation. It sure seems like it changes day by day. However, I didn't have to pay anything extra for tariff. Lucky perhaps.

I thought I'd post an update. I am posting something similar to what I did in a thread for the Goodyear tires but with more topper content than I had there. I drove about an hour each way at higher than normal speeds in some really challenging conditions. Outbound I was doing at least 70 mph true and coming back at least 80 mph. I had the AC on and in conserve mode.

I had some hellacious crosswinds for almost the entire trip and for all the times where I tracked it with the trip computer (TC). The winds at least 17 mph and gusting to 40 mph. One of the few times I've really felt my truck getting blown around. It was causing semis to change lanes at times.

I absolutely love my topper. The fall off in efficiency wasn't as bad as I thought it would be when I bumped my speeds from 70 mph average to 80 mph. This isn't drop off in efficiency due to the toppoer but the change in speed from 70 mph to 80 mph average.

Also, keep in mind that 70 mph on my TC is actually a real-world 71-72 on my GPS, and 80 mph on the TC is actually 82 according to the GPS. I have no idea why the TC never catches up with the actual speed.

Given the very bad crosswinds, I am shocked the numbers are as good as they are. The terrain wasn't even remotely level, with many rolling hills. This has typically negatively impacted my efficiency whenever I've tested before, compared to having it relatively flat. The downhills never make up for the uphill sections.

This was probably some of the fastest, sustained high speed running I did with my truck in quite some time. I didn't even know the topper was there (other than looking out the too dark windows). No wind noise, no buffeting, no stability issues, with the truck driving as well as possible.

I would definitely recommend this topper. It has been very watertight but I think a lot of that is the care I put in assembling it as well as the better seals and more seal area I put where it rests on the bed rails. For me, the topper completes the truck and is like the cherry on top of the sundae.
