The only number was ~60k in less than 24 hours.

Then we’ll need to go with @evguy’s numbers.

68,000 in 24 hours is all we know. They could have a few thousand more by now though after taking the R2 on tour.

A large number of folks will not buy a car unless they can test drive it first. Based on what I have seen and using my estimated price point of 55-60k (base model will not be available for a good while after launch) I think it will sell very well.

I don’t think anything has been reported since that ~60k number.

I also think reservations and preorders are much less meaningful than they used to be. It was a good indicator of demand when it was a novel concept and the dollar figures were higher.

Now it’s a meaningless indicator as many people put in reservations they’re not likely to follow through with.

Many others don’t bother with the reservations because they want the vehicle, but realize the difference between a reservation or not is less than a year difference in wait time.

Honestly I'm one of those unless something drastic changes. Will cancel the R2 reservation and order the R3 when it's available.

Bumping this to ask if anyone knows how many reservations have been placed. I just reserved this week so I'd love to know how far down the queue I sit :)

Not a number Rivian is sharing.

Reservations do not matter, it's how many people turn their reservation into an actual sale. Just look at the CT reservations, they were supposedly in the millions, now they are starting to pile up on lots.
Same on the Ford Lightning.

FWIW I reserved 2 R2's, 1 Volvo, and 2 Scouts all refundable deposits for ~$500 all a few years away from initial deliveries. No way I'll buy all of them but it's a cheap line holder for me or anyone in my family who might be interested in getting a new vehicle (some will graduate college) in a few years. The volvo is already looking like a no.

Proud to be one of those:

Rivian R1T R1S Current total number of R2 reservations? 1735595921142-fx

In 2019 it was exciting. In 2024, after having my Rivian for nearly two years and Elon "going crazy", I'm glad I got my deposit back. Still have a deposit on Silverado EV (reminds me, haven't heard a peep about that), and Canoo. I was always hoping for that one, but it doesn't look good for them. 😢

I was pulling for Canoo. That truck looked like a Mars rover, and I wanted one. That was an unusual design like the CT, but unlike the CT it was attractive.

Some of the initial design renderings of the Tesla truck were neat, like a pickup reimagined into something more aerodynamic and modern. But then it turned into Elon’s DeLorean. Imagine the vibe in the CT design meeting. “Ummm…so hey, Elon, the cyber idea is absolutely amazeballs!, like all of your ideas, but we’re all not 1000% sure this is the best possible concept.”
