What's the current thinking - wait out the power tonneau cover installation or go manual? I've had my PTC install pushed off multiple times now and need something in place before things start getting colder & wetter.

I don't expect to be opening/closing it all that often (it would mostly be closed) so I'm not sure the manual would be too much of a downgrade?

Am I thinking about this correctly?

I have Rev 2 and it broke too... Literally the first time I have used it since install. Clean and not abused. Very disappointing.

I love my manual cover. I don’t have to take it off very often, but when I do it’s very easy to zip it up in the case and stash it in the gear tunnel. that being said, I paid the early price for it ($500 I think?)

The manual cover is very easy to use. I originally ordered with the PTC and took delivery when it was no longer available. I “downgraded” to manual and haven’t looked back.

I’d go with manual. I don’t care how many fixes and redesigns Rivian comes up with. A powered one will eventually fill with dirt and grime before failing. It’s just not the type of device that will last for the long term.

The Rivian manual one is okayish, but I’d got with the Interrobang one if I were in the market for a new one.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Go manual. The powered cover has not proven to be reliable. Mine packed up in high temps a few weeks back. It does not fill me with confidence, and I hold my breath every time I open it.

If I got another truck, it would be manual.

I'm glad I went with the manual cover as well, it's very sturdy, takes about 1min to remove and store inside the gear tunnel and 100% will not fail!

While the manual may not be as slick and always available as the power tonneau, it still seems pretty decent to me. I don’t put it on/remove it very often, but it is super simple and just takes a few minutes. In the summer, I don’t use it much at all. This winter, I anticipate it seeing more use. I don’t carry it with me, as my gear tunnel is already full of stuff. I guess, if one was routinely opening and closing the tonneau, the power one might be worth it - until it wasn’t 😂

I had the PTC until I didn't like GeekDoc. Both have some pros and cons.

MTC - works great as long as the plastic tabs don't break, careful grabbing it when it has been in the sun all day, plan ahead for storing it when you have it on and end up making a spur-of-the-moment purchase that requires it to be off

PTC - great until it isn't and then you're stuck like the PTC

The panels on the powered one vibrate and makes noise over uneven pavement and terrain....definitely go manual if you don't open or need the bed more than a few times a year. If I upgrade to gen 2 at some point, definitely going manual.

I have the Rivian manual cover, and the locking pins both snapped literally the first time I used it. It’s still functional, but I have to use pliers to manually pull the pins back to remove it. Rivian’s solution is to install a PTC, but it hasn’t come in yet…

I don’t use it often enough to care that much, but I may have to see if I can find a way to repair and reinforce the pins.

I've have a 2022 R1T for about 18 months and 24,000 miles. I decided to not wait for the power cover and switched to the manual. I have never regretted that decision. It is very well engineered and easy to install and remove. I love the storage case and how it fits perfectly in the gear tunnel.
