Started hearing the same creaking noise from the right front when first taking off from a stop and when changing directions back and forth. My svc appt is a month out.

I'd like to hear if people have had this issue resolved. I've gone into the service center at least four times for this and am going in a for a fifth next week.

1st service - replace bolts
2nd service - add spacer washers
3rd service - replace half shafts, put in squash plate
4th service - replace entire front drive unit

After all that it still creaks and cracks loudly. Has anyone ever had it repaired in a way that lasts?

The creaking sound has never returned to my truck after the initial fix.

The axle ting washer FSA resolved the clunking.

But I'm still dealing with a couple of sounds...

I had my truck serviced last week for a "ticking" sound at slower speeds when accelerating / decelerating, and for a "cracking" sound that occurs while turning the wheel when reversing.

Service replaced the half shafts, but unfortunately this did not resolve the issue.

I too am very curious if a) anyone knows what the underlying issue is and b) if anyone has had this fixed.

I'm scheduled for service again next month. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I’m about a week and a half after my last attempted repair and the creak is still gone. On the last repair they replaced the hubs and bearings as well as put on new washers. I don’t believe this was ever a bearing noise, so I’m mostly expecting the creaking noise to return.

I’ll update after a few more weeks

i've got the ticking, knocking, clunking and other noises even after all the fixes (greased twice, replaced half shaft, washers). Gonna let the truck go if they can't resolve it this next time.

yep, hub/bearing on the drivers side front seems to be the only thing that hasn't been replaced on mine. Going to insist on that in September.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm hearing the beginnings of the creak coming back this morning. It's more prevalent when driving in conserve mode. I feel like I have a great case for a replacement vehicle, just not sure that I want to right now. The powered tonneau is really awesome (now that it works) and I don't want a vehicle without it. Maybe my game plan now is to drag out a replacement as long as I can until those are available again.

Here's an update for those interested:

5th service - new washers again. New hubs ("bearings were defective")

I'm about 3 weeks after this 5th repair attempt. As usual I drove away from the service center with a silent front end, but now I'm starting to hear the creaking come back.

Still haven't called back the service center, but I really don't know what to do at this point. Other Rivians I listen to don't have this issue and I don't feel like I should live with this. I also worry that the metal-on-metal noise will become a breakdown issue later on

@nfrank- for what it's worth... I recently had another service appointment to address the pops and ticks at slow speeds. The remedy was to replace the gen 1 subframe (welded) with the gen 2 subframe (casted). It's only been one day, but the truck is noticeably quieter and I haven't heard any of the sounds I was dealing with previously. Of course, if that changes, I'll provide an update.

Rivian has offered me a different solution. I’ll be picking up a brand new truck in a couple of weeks. I’m hopeful that this will get rid of the creak, but still cautious.

Mine is currently in Service after waiting for 4 months to have them look at this problem again, but they're claiming mine is well within spec.

Their solution is for me to drive like driving miss daisy. That if I accelerate slow enough and decelerate slow enough that the TOK noise won't happen.

Just redid the washer campaign with “improved” washers (front only this time) So far so good. Minor tock still there but tolerable. Without the upgraded sub frame I thinks it’s the best we can hope for.

Same problem, started around 3,000 miles on my R1T. Up until then it was absolutely quiet with no driveline slack or jerkiness at all. It now has 10,000 miles and has had the splines/half shafts “repaired” three times. The first two attempted repairs were what I call bandaid repairs - clean and repack the splines/half shafts retighten the bolts. No help at all. Third repair was with the new and improved washers. Seemed to help during the cold months for a 1,000 miles or so but once the weather warmed up the same problem returned. I have been told several times the truck was operating as designed. While not an automotive engineer I think that is exactly the problem. Either the design or manufacturing process has resulted in the tolerances in the spline/half shaft interface to be too loose and/or the metal being used is too soft resulting in premature ware. In any event my next move will be to ask Rivian to replace all four spline/half shafts and if that doesn’t solve the problem request the truck be replaced with a new one, perhaps with the new in house manufactured motors and drivelines. It is a shame. I really like driving the truck but it is time for Rivian to finally step up to the plate and solve this problem!

I have this faint creek as well. Front Left only, or so I think. I will use my lift and see what I can find as time allows. Mine is only from a dead stop to 3mph if that...
I think I have the same. Developed at around 6k miles.
