Autonomous vehicles are of great interest for transportation applications and can provide benefits to the ride-sharing industry. Conventionally, when an intended passenger makes a request for a ride-sharing vehicle, the intended passenger may have to contact the driver or have human interactions with the driver of the vehicle to identify his/her particular vehicle, especially when in a crowded area such as a city or an airport. Such interaction, however, may be challenging, if even possible, when attempting to locate an autonomous vehicle within a pool of autonomous vehicles or a crowded area with obstructions.

Typically, cargo crossbars are a set length for a particular vehicle application. There may be many different use cases for crossbars on a vehicle, which could require different mounting locations of varying distance therebetween. It would be advantageous for a crossbar to easily accommodate varying distances between mounting locations of a vehicle.

Other manufacturers could easily make fixed-width crossbars for Rivian vehicles, but it might mean buying a set that only works on one of a) R1T roof, b) R1T bed, c) R1S roof, etc.

Of course, there might also be some other component that is also patented, like the connection and locking mechanism. In that case, yeah, you'll have to buy them from Rivian or someone who has licensed the patented design from Rivian. Or... from someone with fewer scruples.

These exact crossbars, yes (almost certainly). Rivian could conceivably license them to a third party (or may work with a third party like Yakima to produce them), but I wouldn't expect knockoffs right away.

But no doubt there will be various "universal" solutions that will work here if you want to save a buck.

No, you should be able to mount most of the big names to the mount points provided on the Rivians. The difference is that with a single adjustable Rivian crossbar, you can move it from the roof to the bed quickly on the R1T, without having to have two separate width crossbars, or fussing the the width adjustment on a standard fixed-style crossbar, which are sometimes questionably adjustable.

Similarly with the R1S, you can take the same pair of crossbars, and use them either on the roof, or in the cargo area. Just gives them way more flexibility and utility. I like it.

As for mounting the components, that shouldn't matter either. If they don't utilize the T-slot on the Rivian crossbars, everything I've seen at least has a strap to secure it to any bar.

Would also depend on if they are integrated with lock system or not that is controlled via infotainment.
i would assume that's in the socket not the bar if its electronic

20. A method of providing charging power to a vehicle, the method comprising:
receiving, by a controller, control signals from a master controller of a charging power cabinet;

supplying direct current (DC) electrical power to a DC electrical power input of a charging dispenser;

responsive to the control signals, electrically disconnecting the DC electrical power input of the charging dispenser from a DC electrical power pass through output of the charging dispenser;

responsive to the control signals, electrically connecting the DC electrical power input of the charging dispenser to a DC electrical power charging output of the charging dispenser; and

providing DC electrical power to the vehicle through the DC electrical power charging output.

I had asked RJ at the Denver event about "Crossbars" for the bed that would be as high as the roof for long things and his reply was we definitely want to make that happen
(Same exact reply to flat towing)
I got the impression that Yamaka (whatever) is doing that
So I imagine that should be coming any day now
We might be able to speed up the process by making requests for them

I know I want "a set" or whatever it is called

4. The deployable bed cover assembly of claim 1, wherein, in the covered configuration, the bed cover structure is disposed parallel to and spaced apart from the floor of the rear cargo space of the vehicle.

5. The deployable bed cover assembly of claim 4, wherein the bed cover structure is further deployable from the covered configuration to a third angled configuration in which the bed cover structure is disposed at an angle to and spaced apart from the floor of the rear cargo space of the vehicle.
