Another Comma AI/OpenPilot progress update! Things are going well in the efforts to port over the system capabilities to the Rivian system, and testing is already underway. Beta harnesses will be going out soon to a number of us who have purchased them/helped fund the development to expand testing ahead of wider release.

There's also an event in San Jose known as "Comma Hack 5" where many of the best coders and developers in the vehicle autonomy world, including George Hotz aka Geohot himself - founder of Comma AI and the first person to ever jailbreak the iPhone - will be working to code and enable additional and more advanced Comma support for all types of new vehicles, including Rivian.

To that end, if anyone happens to be in the San Diego area from 2/13 and 3/1 and would be willing to assist with their Rivian for some testing (no harm will be done to the vehicle) they are looking for Gen 1 and especially Gen 2 vehicles that would be able to help out. So if anyone is willing to help make this all work by bringing their Rivian to San Diego, let me know or join the Discord server.

Hope you all enjoy this video of a Gen 1 Rivian with the driver assistance system is deserves
Rivian R1T R1S Comma AI/OpenPilot Update -- Watch it in Action on Gen1 Rivian (Video) 1f642
- still a work in progress but it's getting there!
I have used the Comma devices on other vehicles for years, so feel free to ask any questions if you have them.

Looks like it is coming along nicely. I wish there was a better way to engage with this project than Discord. I'd definitely be in to help donate to the cause, but after wading around Discord for a while, I gave up. I don't have time to deal with a new platform in my life.

I agree that Discord is not the easiest or most intuitive way to do it. I'm but a cog in the wheel lol I'll find out direct contact info if you're still willing to help. You'll also get early access.

I am very interested as well. Won’t be able to assist in Cali unfortunately.

If people want to contribute to development and buy a beta harness, it's around $1000 plus the cost of the Comma 3X unit itself. You do get earlier access than most will. PM me and I can put you in touch with the developer. If you dont, you can just wait for official support when the harness should cost more like $200, but that might be a good bit later in the year. Also would be very helpful to find some people in the San Diego area with a Rivian next month.

How convenient, we can't see the bottom of the steering wheel, where you're holding and steering from! It's the moon landing all over again...

This isn't my video but thats not the case, you can even see the Comma device in the windshield doing the route planning (green line). Check out the first progress video posted here -

Also lots and lots of videos going back years for all different models, if you click any of the YouTube links next to the various models here you'll see some - https://comma.ai/vehicles#kia

This looks great but the driving videos don’t seem to be in difficult situations. Around construction, bikers, walkers, stop and go, things like that.
Would be great to retrofit in the future though if they can get it to work 100%!

Same, I ranted about this in the other Comma thread. It's so damn awful.

@CTRedCanyon I have a flexible schedule and can go to SD for a few days and participate. I have skills in physical car mods, Linux, and networking. Not so much in actual jailbreak/hack type work. I have a 22 quad R1T. How long is the truck needed and work time?

Being that stock g1 or g2 can't do any of that, shit; can't even be enabled on surface roads, this is pretty big progress.

That's perfect, I sent you a PM so you can coordinate with them. Comma Hack 5 is in San Diego 2/21 - 2/23, but anyone that is in the area any time in the last two weeks of February would be helpful as there will be work done outside of the event as well.

I started using a comma 3x on my wife's explorer this year. I have a 22 R1T and have had a Model X. Comma system is amazing. It doesn't have obstacle avoidance like Tesla but hands free on all roads is really really good with the 3x. I live in a more rural area and don't really have a need for FSD levels of point to point self driving. Having a computer do the heavy lifting when driving is boring or you want to eat a sandwich is really great. Once you use a Comma, you're going to be really mad at every car company for not offering it as optional from the factory.
