2011 Acura MDX - R1S Preorder
I currently have a 2010 Acura MDX and I am currently in the market for a new SUV.
I always liked the landrover (sport) and most recently the Velar but since I typically keep my cars for 10+ years, I did not want to purchase an ICE vehicle.
I am really hoping to see some better videos that provide a visual appreciation for the size, UX and features of the R1S prior to launch.

While I know it is a new vehicle, what is the best category that the R1S fits in (Nissan Xterra or LandRover Velar) based on the quality and features ?

If you have ever seen a Ford Flex lol, almost same exact length, heck looks a little the same.
That is an ugly car to compare the R1S to. Hopefully the review units will be sent out soon so I can get a detailed comparison of the SUV with other cars in the segment (ICE and EV alike)

From a Box/Rectangle perspective I mean. I saw a flex the other day I was afraid the R1S would be way to big but I think its perfect. I am only comparing by dimensions really

So, I had a LR DIsco Sport and moved up to the Porsche Cayenne because I wanted something bigger. I am moving up to the R1S or the Model X because I want 3rd row seats. Plus, the images make it look very Land Rover-esque - more boxy than curvy. It should be significantly longer than a Velar, maybe a foot longer and probably a little bit wider.

You can look at a Range Rover Land Rover LWB, the R1S is very similar in size to that if you compare the specs.

Think LandRover Discovery and add 6". That's approximately what it will look like. On the interior, it will probably be substantially larger due to the benefits of dedicated EV design.

I had a BMW X7 (sold for R1S), and it is very close in exterior dimensions. Here is a chart from FB that has some additional cars for comparison.

Spot on! I think when I was doing my chart I was trying to price in the same range as the R1S, but 100% the Rover is the benchmark.

Any width measurement over 80“ is including mirrors (probably folded) so you should use the R1S with folded mirrors for accuracy. 80” is the width limit without mirrors set by the NHTSA. Any wider and the vehicle must have the 3 clearance marker lights in front. F-150 and its competition have been 79.9” wide (without mirrors) for decades because of this.

The old Tahoe (2015-2020) is 204″ L x 81″ W x 74″ H, which is pretty darn close too.
