After using a Tesla supercharger for about 40 minutes, I pushed the manual button to close the port door.
The light comes on, but nothing happens. I then tried closing the port door from the vehicle display and then the phone app. Nothing.

I drove off to repark. Still open. I did my first ever soft restart followed by the first hard reset I've ever done.

After that I had to drive home about an hour at highway speeds. It made me a bit nervous because the port door is basically flailing around in the wind going 75.

First appointment is middle of June. Vehicle is 3 weeks old.

Anyone else experienced this? Googling showed me some folks have had theirs get stuck partially open. I didn't see any posts about it being all the way open.

I used a damp cloth to wipe down everything in and around the port. I also used canned air to blow out any debris. Under controls, the Rivian app says, "couldn't open charge port - obstacle detected".

More info shows "Couldn't close charge port - An object was detected so the charge port door can't close. Check to make sure the area is clean then try again".

On my Gen 1, I haven't had issues closing it by hand. It wants to follow the cam path, you just have to help it.

I know the mechanism is different on the Gen 2 and I haven't had ours not retract yet.

This...why is it necessary to have a powered door? Just one more thing to eventually break (or in this case fail right away). Good old manual pop out covers have worked just fine for decades.

Also, don't even get me started with the electronic pop out door handles :D......

So any progress on this?
Luckily dispatch reached out to me from the Rivian app, and they are able to get me into my local service center today. They said they think they know what the issue is, and it should be a 24 hour turn around.

That is great news. It's supposed to rain here all week starting tomorrow and I was really worried about getting water inside the charging port.

I did order a charging port cover dust plug/waterproof protector cap and a
BestEvMod charger rain/snow cover from Amazon but they won't be here for 2 more days.

Will update post when I find out more. I have a feeling that the issue is a charge door actuator failure.

Probably a failed charge port motor. Recall similar post on a gen1. Original concept had simple swing out port door. Wonder why they changed and added more failure points.

Just one more thing Rivian lied about and never delivered. That feature was the only reason I put down a deposit.🤣

Rivian shop ended up needing to order parts. Still in the shop. Their estimate is that it will ready tomorrow.

Thank you for taking the time to post an update.
This is the first failure of this type I've read about. I'm glad they got you repaired.

I have the same issue but caused by my stupidity pulling the charge port door open after the batteries had died. Thank you for sharing your experience and how it was resolved!

I’m requesting they sell me the replacement actuator since I caused the issue so it won’t be covered through warranty. You posting the part numbers is very helpful.
