Ok thanks everyone. So the answer is YES there is a technical reason why our trucks cant be rear drive biased - no physical disconnect installed on the front motor. I knew about it being FWD before buying and bought it anyway - love the truck so all is well. Maybe they will rear bias the R2.
The tri is rear biased and it makes the truck drive so much more fun.

That's a good point, I probably turned on D+ at some point during that drive which reset the stability setting.

Snow mode also keeps the rear engaged, though it also makes the throttle response even slower.
The thing I don't like about Snow mode isn't the muted throttle, that's not a huge change in most daily driving. For me, it's the reduced regen braking. I really like the calibration of the regen+hydraulic brakes in the highest setting, and snow mode significantly mutes that (as it should for snow/winter driving). Works great in the winter, but it's just enough muted that I don't like it for regular daily driving.

Man, that AWD Lock setting sure would be nice!

We have been told by official Rivian social media figures that changes to the dual motor all-purpose are coming.

I'm guessing an All-Purpose in AWD is coming.

I'm cool with that, but I'd prefer the old smooth pre-2024.51.01 update restored. The wasn't an issue until maybe January.

The performance model gives you a few more options and tricks for this problem but it's not all that much better. It's all at the cost of having better efficiency and it certainly squeezes it out of the drivetrain.
