First time camping with and sleeping in my R1S this past weekend - couple thoughts/questions:

1) The MegaMat Duo 10 is a great fit and very comfortable
2) Auto Leveling is such a great feature
3) When you manually turn off the Displays in camp mode and want to turn them back on, why do you need to unlock the vehicle AND press the brake? A couple times I found myself having to climbing over the center armrest and reach down to press the brake with my hand to turn screens back on. What am I missing here?
4) I tried "Stay Off" "Normal" and "Stay on" camp modes, but none would allow me to continuously charge a phone through any of the USBs. Again, missing something?
5) A future Update recco: When in Camp Mode, being able to make camp mode/climate control adjustments from the 2nd row screen would be awesome. I found myself also reaching over the front center console from the mattress to change temp etc. from the main screen.

Having camped recently in my R1S, I wholeheartedly agree with all of these comments.

Just some quick responses to your comments:

1) The MegaMat Duo 10 is a great fit and very comfortable
*Thanks for the recommendation
2) Leveling is such a great feature
*TOTALLY AGREE! I used it on my first camping trip with my R1S a couple of months ago...and it was flawless, and game changing. All of the other rigs that I was with were amazed...as they sat on their traction boards, rocks, blocks. etc to level! lol
3) When you manually turn off the Displays in camp mode and want to turn them back on, why do you need to unlock the vehicle AND press the brake? A couple times I found myself having to climbing over the center armrest and reach down to press the brake with my hand to turn screens back on. What am I missing here?
*My experience has been that if I turn the screens off, all I have had to do to turn them back on is simply touch the screen. I was forced to hit the brake. If this is not consistent with you, then perhaps the difference between our situations may be that in my use case, I do not lock the truck after, or before turning off the screen...mainly because when I camp, it has been in a tent...not inside the truck. Maybe that's the difference that requires you to hit the brake first.
4) I tried "Stay Off" "Normal" and "Stay on" camp modes, but none would allow me to continuously charge a phone through any of the USBs. Again, missing something?
*My experience has been that I can go into energy settings and turn on all outlets for a specific duration. I assume that would keep the usb outlets active as well, but I'm no expert in this. That settings definitely keeps the other outlets active, which I use for my fridge.
5) A future Update recco: When in Camp Mode, being able to make camp mode/climate control adjustments from the 2nd row screen would be awesome. I found myself also reaching over the front center console from the mattress to change temp etc. from the main screen.
*Totally agree. Another short term work-around, if you haven't tried this already, could be to control the interior cabin climate via the Rivian app. That way, you could stay right where you are and not have to contort yourself to access the front controls.

Good luck and happy trails!

Some good points, thanks! I think I need to play around with everything a bit more to get it dialed. It does seem that camp mode could be a bit more user friendly for campers sleeping in the vehicle.

I tried operating the climate control through the app but it was grayed out and said something to the effect of ā€˜some operations may be limitedā€™, I guess due to the lack of cell reception and limitations of Bluetooth? Is this anyone elseā€™s experience?

Also agree with your points. It's pretty crazy how well auto-level works. Here's a picture of us maxing out it's capability. The difference between the front and back was impressive.

If you're going with the Megamat, the M will fit between the 3rd row armrests, but the LW+ will not.

Yes, turning on all outlets keeps USB on

Thanks for sharing. We havenā€™t camped in ours yet. But if we lose power with a hurricane this year our plan is to head to the garage and sleep in the R1S and Model Y, so we should probably try it out sometime. Has anyone tried just a regular inflatable intex mattress?

Can you not use your phone to adjust the climate controls while in the back? Or does it wake the entire vehicle up?

I couldnā€™t (controls were grayed out and unavailable), but you got me thinkingā€¦ I had BT on, but was in airplane mode due to the lack of cell reception where we were. I wonder if I wasnā€™t in airplane mode, if my phone/app would connect to the wifi and itā€™d work. Didnā€™t even think about it at the time. Can anyone confirm?

There is a custom airbed on Amazon for the R1S. I purchased it for our road trip but we didn't end up using it yet. Comes with a pump as well. Seems to be ok quality and I like that you can inflate half or the whole thing.

Another approach would be to use the camp speaker to charge your phone - and it can be a night light.
