Went to use the camp speaker in my garage yesterday and discovered it was dead. Plugged it in via USB and it works and charges fine. I double checked the docking area and there's no obstruction and the contact springs are all working inside.

It worked fine when I got the truck so I'm wondering if maybe the update caused this? Anyone else seeing the issue?

Maybe the point of connection between the vehicle and the speaker never actually worked and when you took delivery it was still on its initial charge?

Does the R1T infotainment screen not show info on the camp speaker battery level and charging status?

I know it used to, but for some reason I feel that they have removed that...

So update for those interested. I ran the speaker down till it was showing red. Put it back in the dock and re-booted the truck, looks like it charged fine. So I guess nothing to see here?

Wonder if there is some kind of adaptive charging at work trying to prolong the speaker battery.

If so, it could be that the algorithm needs some impr00vement.

I would suggest letting Rivian know so they at least have it on their radar and a data point that it is happening.

when the truck updates to 11.02, the camp speaker display includes % charge and prompts to remove and reinsert the speaker if it doesn't dock correctly. camp speaker software hasn't been written yet. I'm told it will eventually function as described in an early review (functioning as a speaker for the vehicle and perhaps as an Alexa device or even to use a phone paired to the truck … it could become a killer feature …)

The charge % display can be … shy.
Sometimes there's the "reinsert" prompt I mentioned.
I asked if "100%" was 100% or was it more like 70% of a larger battery, but that fact won't be known till someone decides to disassemble the speaker. I'm just not that curious … : )

I have had two instances over the past month where I pull the speaker out and it's dead (the only two times I wanted to use the speaker). I plug in with USB and charge a bit and it works fine. It also charges up once I reinstall it in the truck with the percent showing on the screen after I use it and going up fairly quickly. Then two week's go by and I removed the speaker to use it again and it's dead. I have been on the new software (11.2) only since 4/15, but speaker was dead yesterday second time so has happened on two versions. I'll try again this weekend and see what I get. So far I feel when I don't see the charge status the speaker is not charging and possibly draining the battery as there is a red light always on showing mic disabled, but who knows.

I just noticed that my speaker will charge but stops at 78/79%. I took it out yesterday and charged it with a USB-C cable for 6 hours and it never stopped blinking so I suspected that it did not reach full charge. Anyway, I ended up putting it back into the truck this morning and it showed 74% so I think it never charged at all with the cable and dropped 5% overnight in standby (which is just an observation and expected). I’ve done the soft reset and factory reset to no avail. Anyone have ideas or will this be ANOTHER service request?

A few weeks ago I had a similar issue. Speaker was almost dead. Was giving off warning tones that it was low. Didn’t know what it was at first and then found it was the camp speaker.
I don’t know if was still charging after other updates.

This feels like one of those ideas Rivian may regret including on the truck and remove in later versions Simply because it’s an extra point of failure with what is essentially a consumer electronics gadget.

On a side note. Does the flashlight in the door hold charge or have a display etc.?

There’s no display for SOC and I haven’t really used it enough to know for sure about holding a charge but it has worked whenever I have tried. At least that one has an easily replaceable battery unlike the speaker…although that would depend on Rivian’s availability of the replacement battery.
