CA DV DMV Fees

My partner is a Disabled Veteran and we currently have our Nissan Rogue registered with DV plates. I just wanted to add our experience with fee waiver and transfer.

Our Rivian guide confirmed that their DMV team would waive the title & registration fees because we are transferring the plate to the R1s. Not only will it be our main car but, it also saves a ton of money over our current car so it's the smarter choice. However, when we received our purchase contract the fees for registration and title were still included. This goes without saying but, always read everything before you sign anything.

We just let our guide know that the contract doesn't match with what were told originally and to have it revised. (which I'm sure they'll have done today)

I'm okay with them keeping it on the contract if they give us that amount to spend in the gear shop. I'll buy every last shirt (kidding) but just something to watch for.

The nDMV said it's no problem and that when we pick up the Rivian we just swap the plate and put our old one back on. Then we just have to tell them after it's done so they can update the registration. I will try to be responsive if anyone has questions that I might have the answer to.

From Rivian it shows about 1k but I know doing it through the DMV next year would end up being like 1,1-1,200.

My experience was good with the Ca. DMV, however the Fastrac registration was a bit tricky. We filled out the form for the Fastrac at the DMV, but then got a Fastrac camera ticket for not registering and paying Fastrac to use the Lane!
The ticket was paid for online by me and Fastrac used that money to cover my membership, so it was a wash. My only point is I did not realize the DMV was not the last word on Cal Trans Fastrac! They, Fastrac, did send me stickers after I paid them and now I am a sticker carrying driver. One more thing, Fastrac now bills me monthly! inspite of being an EV and having 2 passengers. I guess I thought HOV = Fastrac, but it does not.

Thank you, the clear term is Transponder! Yes you said that well as an FYI for others to be advised. Point being is the DMV does not give you a transponder!

Just an update on the fee waiver.

our guide was out of the office so we called the normal support number and they revised the purchase agreement within an hour or so.

It actually ended up lowering our down payment amount which was cool.

We didn’t think CA would let us transfer an existing plate to a new car but it was a lot more seamless than we imagined.
