I just double-checked and the Apple settings are lying. If the app isn’t open, the PAAK does not work, which is what I suspected.
I think the settings disclaimer was stating you don’t need to actually take out your phone and open the app, but it still needs to be open in the background.

I haven’t used this in quite some time, but I’m a Gen 1 owner and setting this option to ‘always’ did allow me to use PAAK without opening the app, I just tested it. I only stopped using this because my bedroom is close to the vehicle and it use to unlock the doors. Setting ‘always’ was a little finicky though. The truck was sleeping and would not wake until I opened the app. I closed the app when I got in and the truck started without a problem. When I walked away it locked and then I tried approaching again, this time it unlocked the doors without opening the app.

With regard to the pop-up message that occurs when you close the app, Rivian needs to implement a check that if the always option is set not to display that message.
interesting. I guess disregard my previous post then. I’ll have to try.

Had my gen2 in off-road highest mode with the trailer connected, left it overnight. Next morning it kicked it back to all-purpose standard mode but didn't actually lower the suspension at all, even after I started driving. Highest is bouncy as heck with a trailer so I didn't test to see if it'd go faster than 20 mph.

Yeah - I thought they were supposed to have fixed the Auto setting not coming back on but near as I can tell - Auto comes back on after a sleep? Not totally sure of the pattern yet - but I can turn it off and it will seem to stay that way from drive to drive - but overnight - seems to want to revert back to Auto.

I'm fairly sure my tri-max hasn't reset auto and will stick in sport mode overnight. I assume you have a dual motor, that still has the obligated auto mode.

Not sure about the G2 people, but for my G1 truck the QC for the updates has really taken a nosedive since last year around when G2 launched. The first two years the updates tended to be very stable for me and involved significant improvements in experience. Since late last summer/fall, the updates have been far more buggy or inconsistent. For everything 2 things they fix or add they break at least one that was fine.

PaaK especially had gotten to be really good for a while and has since gone in the shitter to where it's unreliable at best. It's pretty disappointing.

I'm not sure if this is a result of now managing 2 different software versions, or the VW JV, or just the code getting more complex as time goes on or maybe a little bit of all 3 but I'm hoping they get a handle on it soon.

I have a 2023 R1T and feel pretty lucky that no previous updates have caused any issues. Never even had to reboot.

This update, however, has been a real nuisance.
  • Nav freezing and zoomed out to continent scale. Resolved on reboot.
  • No more aerial photography in maps.
  • Nav in dark mode at 2:00 p.m., resolved via reboot.
  • Connect+ hotspot speeds to less than 10 Mbps. Unresolvable via reboot.
  • Podcast on Audible app no longer working. Unresolvable.
  • Climate control operating. Very strange... Often heating when it should be cooling.
  • When L2 charging at home, the radiator fan now sometimes runs very high. Sounds like a leaf blower. So much for my quiet EV.
Called this into Rivian service today. The guy I talked to seemed to know nothing about these sorts of issues since the last software update. Said they would call back but I'm not holding my breath.

Hopefully gets resolved in the next update. Wish there were a way to roll back one step.

I'm a new owner with luckily few of these issues, but one I'm curious about is the location-based garage opening? Is this a thing? I have to open manually each time and have NEVER seen anything related to my location or even a menu option to do it. Was this removed?

Hit the gear icon in the garages window to shortcut into the settings where you can assign the location.

Another apple music issue to add to the list - I lost the capability to connect my Apple Music account to my G2 R1S. My wife's apple music account works just fine in her profile - she is on my family plan. I can stream AM audio from my phone, just can not connect from my R1S. I get an error message saying can not find my Apple Music subscription. Rivian is trying to work the issue remotely over the last week, but looks like all these other issues are a bit overwhelming for the SC.

Same issues here on both our R1S and the loaner R1T we have (both gen1's - I know this thread is focused on .30 for gen2, but seems like others are here to ;) ). Infotainment reset fixed for two days - then this morning was back to being bugged out - no biggie, but a bit sucky. On the plus side it no longer takes an ice age for the climate control to slide up :D

Yes - I do have Gen 2 Dual - Perf - wasn't clear that the auto mode was obligatory (understand that was for the EPA testing default vehicle setup for the dual). Would really like then for them to surface a simple setting that allows the mode to be sticky - that way it is under usual control and they could still default it to auto in the absence of that setting being turned on by the user.

I have a lot of empathy for Wassym and the development team. These are complex systems using a new architecture.

Nonetheless, as any developer who has had to support their own code knows, every flaw you ship is multiplied by the number of customers you have. I'm not familiar with their test and validation process, but, given the number and type of bugs released to production, it's not working. This is not acceptable quality for critical systems that people use everyday and depend on for safety.

I've seen a lot of development teams that have been pushed hard for feature after feature, while the code base accumulates significant technical debt. In most cases, the correct path is to take a few sprints to focus on stability and quality without introducing any new features. I hope that Rivian executives will understand the wisdom of that sort of action. It is hard to regain the trust and goodwill of customers once lost.

At this point I think they should start bribing their SW team for fixes.

Like $100K bonus to whoever fixes the Apple Music issues.

For me, NAV voice can't say 18 as in SR 18, can't say southeast, northwest, northeast or any combination of those.

Also, when you unplug the charger, the vehicle doesn't wake up. Have to open a door for it to wake up and it's slow doing that.
I've noticed mine can't say anything with "teen" (like exit's 13 through 19, route 17, etc). This issue existed in the previous update as well.
