It could be a lot worse, but I always do brakes myself. You can get both front and rear sets of good Powerstop pads for just over $100 shipped and the labor is simple.

Front and rear? Cheaper than Mazda dealers in the Seattle area. They are scum though.

Dealers are bad, but never has such bad experiences with Acura dealers.

You didn't get/pay for fluid.

Rivian was using a Brembo braking system. They sell parts directly. On the rears you have to retract the motorized park brake motor.

Honda dealer here wanted more than that to do my front brakes.

They also told me that the pads were at 2mm. I was going to change them myself until I got the wheels off and saw they have 7-8mm until they hit the wear bars.

Yeah, these prices aren't bad for a lux vehicle at all. I think the shop rate might be a little high.
I would have asked them to do the brake fluid if hasn't been done in the past year or so.
What about the condition of rotors? If you have uneven pad wear, there must be something also going on with the rotors

Slightly generic comment - I would have thought Rivians (or all EVs) would have very long brake pad life - unless one does not enable aggressive or moderate regen in which case the brake pads will get used a lot and for a heavy vehicle. .

On my Model S, it was > 100K miles before pads needed change - that too - I had to ask for it - dealer wasn't keen - they said there is still life left. Granted Rivian is 2K lb heavier, but also the regen is stronger/motors are bigger. I expect my R1T to have a long brake / pad life!

3 years, that's what...50k miles? Inside pads are worn on all four corners? How much extra? For sure there must have been a lot of pad left, and wearing unevenly on all 4 corners would be really odd. Shouldn't have needed brake pads on an EV with that low mileage. I would expect 100k out of the pads easy.

A new set of ceramic pads front and rear is $100 total on RockAuto. Semi-metallics are even less. I wonder what pad compound the OEM pads use?

If they only charged $200 for labor and parts were at cost, for a total of $500 or less, I was all about saving myself some time and frustration. But $850? That's a little steep.

Why are you replacing your brake pads so early?

I have uneven wear at every inner pad, but at least one front set needs done soon. I'm almost at 60k miles and 3 years so I figure the fluid is due, at least per their maintenance schedule. I was hoping if they looked in there, saw how uneven the pads were, they'd warranty at least part of the charge.

It says inspect fluid, but I would tell them I want the 60k Rivian maintenance schedule recommended flush. Maybe I'll put a hidden tape seal on the reservoir to see if they even touch it.

This would be the first time I've paid for brakes, I've done brakes and some rotors for 6 different vehicles. My concern is the below.

Did they change the parking brake release method? I thought it was hidden before and only 120 seconds, but I just found it under Service settings and it's 15 minutes. That's definitely doable.
