Hey All. Seeking some advice for airing up my MTB tires with the Rivian compressor.

I could carry a mini Dewalt compressor that I own if needed but would love to carry a ~6ft hose that can plug directly into the Presta valve.

I know my compressor came with an adaptor for a Presta valve but I couldn't get it to work when I tried, also don't want to deal with the long hose for bike tires.

What are people doing?

I keep a travel floor pump in the truck.

But I always pump my tires up at home before a ride.

I never use the truck to inflate bicycle tires—that would be too much trouble. I assume you are running tubeless on your MTB. If it is difficult to seat the beads on tubeless tires, you might want a floor pump with an overcharge reservoir

Yeah tubeless. They are mostly holding air now like they should. I’m on a trip to Colorado and didn’t bring my Dewalt portable assumed I was covered with the included adapter but I couldn’t get it to work.

Get/make yourself a shorter hose. I can't recommend coiled hose enough. No fuss. Easier to keep off the ground/dirt (no annoying splinters in hands when putting hose away). Better yet, replace the Rivian hose with a 25' coiled hose. 25-footer fits in the Rivian pouch. Keep the Rivian hose in your garage for at-home use. As for the Presta... any Presta chuck that can fit on the Milton-M style QR fitting, like this one: https://a.co/d/7S7UjJ5 (you'll need to add a 1/4" NPT male Milton-M fitting to it).

Another chuck by JACO that is both Presta and Schrader. BTW, JACO makes the Schrader one Rivian includes in their kit. https://jacosuperiorproducts.com/pr...0PsT68s2YOfe8X0_LhZ4Wzfb6wuP42_BoC9jwQAvD_BwE

Huh - I've been using the onboard compressor with the included adapter and a presta insert adapter and it works just fine.

It's a little tough to get a bead to set on a tubeless if you're doing a field repair, and I inevitably come home covered in Stans Sealant, but always get it to work.

Bought these - work fine for me with OE compressor, line, and Shrader valve adapter: https://a.co/d/97kG6DV

I just air up at home before the ride with a manual pump...it's faster as a general rule. When going for several days, I also take the pump with me...

Hmm. Just to kill my curiosity, Are you threading the schrader adapter onto the presta valve or just trying to push it on?

No definitely screwed it on. I use a similar adapter with my Dewalt portable. That said I can’t get the other connector to seat far enough over the adapter.

it’s possible I replaced the adapter at some point and this one is wider but I thought they were all pretty much the same, also don’t recall using it.

If you need to borrow a floor pump as a backup and are driving through northern CO let me know.

I coincidentally got almost all of the above on this same journey, though a shorter coiled hose. My take? It's not worth it. That Jaco adapter is cool, but it's always on. So you need to put a "gun" on it before the adapter to stop air from just always flowing out.
I also thought it would be cool to set the "Max PSI" to what I want in my tires and have it stop automatically. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I don't know if its the low pressure of a MTB tire or mine is just not that accurate, but i was getting WILDLY varying results.
So, I just try real hard to remember to put my floor pump in the bed with my bike. If not, I use the mini one I keep in my pack and do the squeeze test.
I'm also in CO if you need to a pump or advice on where to ride.

That's a given with ANY open flow chuck. Get a presta chuck that will lock on, then start the compressor. Or, get the compressor going first then stick on the chuck and babysit it until desired psi.

And point of coiled hose is convenience in putting the hose away, vs the long cumbersome factory hose that refuses to go back neatly into the bag unless you wind it up just right. Unnecessary expense? We're talking about less than $40 all said if you shop around. Compared to what we spent on our Rivians, it's nothing.

It's well known the built-in gauge is just ballpark good. It's not a lab instrument. You can hook up an additional consumer grade gauge, which I do with my 4-tire inflation kit, and you'd consistently get different readings. Which one is right? Who knows. In situations like this, where close enough is good enough, consistency is the key. Stick to the same gauge, whichever tickles your fancy.

Thanks, not really desperate, just wondering what others are doing. Kooper says he wants the @COdogman treatment though!

Thanks for the offer, enough air in my tires to ride so no worries.

Was camped out near Nederland for a few days riding. Going to be meeting up with family in Idaho Springs if you have a go to suggestion for a short ride in that area.
