1.97 mi/kWh. Seattle to Whistler BC on 23DEC2024 in our Gen1 R1S.

Yakima SkyBox on the rear two rail mounts and a Tyger ski rack in the hitch with 3 pairs of skis in it. Stock 20" Scorpion AT tires.

Kept the top speed mostly at 65 mph on the freeways. Roads were dry until close to Whistler. Stopped to charge at an EVgo in Bellingham, and then again at the Tesla Supercharger in Squamish. Didn't need to charge twice, but did need to stop twice anyway to stretch legs and get snacks. A super-smooth trip! And there seems to be plenty of charging infrastructure here in Whistler, though I'm doing most of my charging at the rented house with my portable charger.

nice, i start at 100% from Bellevue, make lunch pit stop in Vancouver and normally charge 1x in Squamish, at the EA chargers (350kW!) across from the London Drugs (same area as the Tesla SC).

I find that i use 25%-30%ish from Squamish (Garibaldi Village) to Whistler Village given the elevation change.

I don't use a cargo box since i do a lot of underground parking - where the vehicle height limits are ridiculous.

Any chance you have a link for that ski rack?

I've been extremely happy with the INNO BRM202ST roof box. Built really well, uses a memory clamp design so you set it one time and you don't have to mess with it again, and more importantly only resulted in a .4 mi/kWh reduction (3.5 vs 3.1) vs another trip without out it in similar weather when mounted onto our GV60 using factory crossbars on a 200 mile road trip.

Link added in thread. If all your skis are wide, you might only be able to fit 4 pairs in...

That's better than I get with my truck - I'm wondering if it is because you are able to mount the box further back so the air flows up and around it better. My box sticks out over the windshield a bit. I've got some "u-bolts" on order that will allow me to move it down over my truck box to see how much that helps.

That’s good. Keeping to 65 max helps a lot and I think fast charging warms the battery and aids efficiency too.
I did it without box or rack, but went up to 75 on freeway and made it from NW Seattle to Whistler (220 miles) with 20 miles left.
I tried the new Tesla SC at Market Place, but stopped after 10 minutes as it is pretty expensive. I charged much cheaper on L2 during stay.
On way home the navigation seemed to be very conservative and said I would not make it home. I stopped for 5 minutes at new Tesla SC just south of truck crossing with just 25 miles added according to vehicle. However after just a short while on freeway the estimated miles at destination kept going up. I arrived home with 50 miles so I didn’t really need that stop.

I stopped using ski racks due to the corrosion; I now use a Thule Alpine Motion XT with skis stacked upon each other. Nice efficiency, I don't think I've ever been able to achieve that to Whistler, but I also run snow tires.

Isn't it better the other way around for efficiency?

I got 1.48 mi/kwh from los angeles, ca to mammoth. 300 miles. 7000ft elevation.
Gen 2 R1S DMP 20AT
Have skiis strapped onto cross bars ( no mount. super aero)
Yakima exo swing in the back.
