Taking my 2023 R1T Quad motor/large pack from Austin to Anchorage. After lots of research and some much appreciated in input from Ryan Watts of Van in Black, I am feeling pretty confident about the trip. Planning to use ABRP combined with the onboard navigation to chart our course. The truck has 20” AT with brand new OEM Pirelli Scorpion tires at 50 PSI. It is also outfitted with an IKamper 3.0 Mini tent mounted on Rivian cargo crossbars over the bed. I also have a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 bike rack. After doing some range/efficiency drives around Austin, I decided to start the trip with bikes loaded in the bed of the truck and the rack folded up. Seems a little silly, but I want to have the rack with me in Anchorage so I am bringing it. I hope to get better range in this configuration. All my range testing was done it standard drive mode. Any thoughts on standard vs conserve mode? It will be hard but planning to stick to 65mph as much as possible.

Our route is through Colorado, Wyoming and Montana then on to the Yukon, Alcan Highway then finally to Anchorage. Planning to do the trip in 10 days. We hope to use Level 3 charge as often as possible, Tesla, RAN and whatever other networks we find. We will be sleeping in the tent and ideally use RV parks to charge at night whenever possible. It appears that Canada has a pretty robust charging infrastructure so I feel pretty good about that but the areas of most concern are Wyoming, Montana, and Alaska. Any first hand input on the most recent status of chargers in Wyoming, Montana, and/or Alaska would be appreciated.

Will be trying to post updates and photos here and possibly on another platform yet to be determined.

This sounds like an amazing adventure. When do you think you’ll roll through Denver? Perhaps some of us here can meet you at the Rivian service center or Rivian Space. The force is strong here, you cannot drive a block without seeing a Rivian!

If you can pack some Taco Cabana, Double Dave’s pizza rolls, Kerby Lane pancakes, bbq brisket, a few slices of Mr. Ghatti’s pizza, a Whataburger, and some Amy’s ice cream for me, you will have a new friend for life lol.

Seriously let us know your ETA in Denver. Hope you guys have an amazing trip!

I am having a minor freak out this morning because ABRP is acting up! First I have never been able get my MacBook to allow geolocations on ABRP inspire of allow locations in the settings! Previously I just added my address and it seemed to work. Also this morning ABRP planner is planning routes that are significantly different than yesterday! I realize ABRP planner uses the status of charging stations to help with planning but after accessing my initial route multiple times before today and it never changing until this morning, I am loosing faith in the app! Maybe I need to access it on my phone??

There was an update yesterday, at least for IOS. I usually use it on my iPad and then just plug in the next charging address in the Rivian on my trips going between stops.

Check to see if some of your preferences may have changed. I’m doing a CA, MA, FL, CA loop next month and the ABRP routes on my iPad still look good for me this morning.

Same. Great for planning/research to get accurate energy needed between stops and recommending charging locations, but wouldn't use day to day. Verify current status through PlugShare.

I wish I had thought of this sooner so I could have made some better preparations. Anyway though I really like your idea and I am trying to pull some stuff together. Looks like we may be in the Denver area some time early Wednesday but it will depend on how day one goes. I will keep you posted.

Did a 5000 mi trip in a 2023 R1S Quad from PA to Colorado, S Dakota and back. No drama, great experience, kids asking for another road trip now 🙂 Check your tires - if your alignment is off you can get it straightened out at Discount Tire along the way, otherwise tires may get chewed out and efficiency may take a hit. I drove most time on All Purpose, only used Conserve (and drove slower) when needed. I set Driver+ to 75mph and enjoyed the ride - wishing you the same!

A big Plus One on the alignment. Be sure and get it aligned at the suspension height you will drive in because the geometry will change at different heights and affect tire wear.
