Yesterday, after racking my brain for what seemed like weeks on what I wanted, I received the AWZZ and Toyo Open Country A/T III EV LT275/60R20 wheel and tire setup from Atomic Wheels.
Last fall, I sold my stock 20” bright/Pirelli tires and installed a 20” aftermarket and winter wheel setup for the upcoming Colorado winter. With the weather moving toward warmer days ahead, I wanted to capitalize on the opportunity to switch to a lighter wheel while prioritizing efficiency gains and opting for a reliable AT tire that I’ve had experience with and trusted in the past. In fact, I currently have the same (non-EV) tire on my 2019 Tundra, and it performs exceptionally well in snowy conditions and as a year-round tire. The combination of a lighter setup and the 2026.06 release with a wheel/tire swap seems like a win-win. Ohh, and unlocking more miles per full charge when I need it!
Let me just say that Santiago and the Atomic team were incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and responsive throughout the research and exploration process. Thank you, Atomic team! I went back and forth on several of their designs before finally deciding on the AWZZ in Satin Black. And now that they’re installed, I have no regrets. I love the look of this combo…sleek yet aggressive.
I haven’t received the OTA to 2025.06 yet, so I can’t recalibrate the R1S to the correct configuration just yet. However, I’m already enjoying the significant increase in efficiency (2.6 mi/kWh) on this warm Colorado day.
I’ll update this post in the coming weeks with more accurate numbers after the software update and a series of upcoming mountain trips.
