At Home Charging. 2 broken Home Air Conditioner Capacitors.

Recently had an electrician install 2 Nema 14-50 Receptacles in 2 different homes.
Both homes had their AC capacitor broken shortly after install.

Anyone have this issue?


50 Amp circuits.
6 Gauge Wire
Standard Rivian portable charger.
Nema 14-50

Outside Temperature both 100F.

Probably a coincidence. Heat kills capacitors, and it’s been HOT in much of the world. Capacitors are also one of the most common AC failures.

I don’t have my truck yet, but I learned that lesson as well during this hot weather. Had to replace the capacitor in my AC unit. The AC service tech advised me to order a couple of backup capacitors and keep them on hand.

I'm no electrician, perhaps one could chime in, but by the looks of this I'm not sure how the charger would effect the capacitors...
