Rivian, Tesla, Ford Maverick and Lexus GX. No way the Wife or the kids would allow all the same vehicle in the house. Future Rivian R2 or Scout or Hyundai in 2027-2028.

I've never been a fan of being a "one brand house". Having different brands means if the whole brand has problems, all your vehicles aren't impacted.

Had a family member who was an all-Saab household. When Saab went under, it was problematic getting repairs, as the nearest "warranty approved repair shop" went from being in his town to being multiple hundred miles away.

If Rivian has some "stop driving now" recall, and all your vehicles are Rivians, you're suddenly unable to drive.

That said, when the R3 comes out, there's a good chance we'll have two Rivians.

I can only afford my current R1S LE.
If I have more $ and need to buy more EVs, then Rivian is the only choice for me.

Thank you for reading my mind and saving me some typing!! Look at Tesla, the darling of Wall street investors and progenitor of the modern electric vehicle to which others aspired to measure up to. They were a solid investment (for a vehicle, I'm not discussing the stock) up to just a month ago. Today you're looked at as a social pariah if you own one.

History has recently repeated itself but with Fisker being the brand this time. Lots of bragging going on at the now non-existing Fisker forum with owners proudly proclaiming "all Fisker household here!" spending sometimes up to $140K for two Fiskers only to be completely gutted when Fisker suddenly went belly-up over the course of a couple of months time. No parts, no repairs, no warranty, insurance co's are refusing to insure them.

I think Fisker is a pretty poor comparison. How many cars did they deliver? 5000? Founder filed for bankruptcy ten years prior with another failed vehicle startup. No charging network, etc, etc. The economic volatility of our times coupled with current tariffs and economic policy here in the US make, as you rightly pointed out with the current Tesla backlash, most if not all car manufacturers a risky bet. And cars are a badly depreciating asset anyway.

Is it a safe choice? No, definitely not, but for us, we love these vehicles and wouldn’t want to drive anything else when we drive each of our vehicles over 20k miles/year.

As soon as the R2 is released we'll sell/trade-in our ID.4. Then we'll be an R1S/R2 Rivian-only family. Nothing specifically against the ID.4 other than it's no where close to being the type of vehicle Rivian is.

And those $140K vehicles suddenly became worth only ~$60K because of Fisker's fire-sale at the end.

(I seriously thought about getting a Fisker at the end, if they had dropped just a little more to make "lack of parts/service" worth the risk to me.)

We have a First Edition #509 Kia EV6 GT-L . My "designed by Albert Biermann" star fighter.

We also bought a Mach E GTPE - FUN car! - which was "broken" by the dealer after a botched recall repair a year later. Ford gave us a full by-back.

Fortunately, I was on an order list. Two weeks later, Rivian emailed me about a couple declined vehicles (interest rates had climbed) and I grabbed the R1S.

If they’d make a convertible, then we’d be one. But until then, you can pry my wife’s A5 Cabrio “from her cold, dead hands”…
