Are we sure they can't fit 35 inch tires?

I think it’s been said that on full lock bigger tyre/wheel (sorry; tire/wheel) combos would foul on something.

How exactly would the extra 0.9" in tire diameter be of benefit? Tire selection?

If torque is limited (and it is) then less thrust and thus less acceleration is available with a larger wheel. Also the larger wheel has a larger rotational moment of inertia which means some loss of efficiency as regenerative energy recovery is not 100% efficient. Not sure that the magnitudes of either of these effects would be large enough to bother most people.

Lots of off-roaders have stated 35s are desirable for the most difficult trails, presumably for rock-crawling where every half-inch of clearance helps, I imagine. I don't expect I'll be needing 35s as the closest to offroad I've come to date is gravel.

The tires on the R1T are already 34", which is plenty.

Offroad performance is a combination of low center of gravity, maximum clearance, approach/departure/breakover angles, traction, & toughness.

Tire size can help increase clearance (1" for every 2" of increased size). IMO, tire size is the least important factor of those above. And 33-34" tires is plenty.

Thank you for that. Not my domain and I did feel somewhat like there was over-fussing about it.

Put it this way, the standard tyres on my Landcruiser are 32" and that has not held me back. 34" tyres on the R1T will be great!

Here’s a photo from Austin. When I asked about the lack of clearance, I was reminded the “show vehicles” are production intent but not exact features and dimensions in all cases. I’m not sure anyone can really say at this point what will fit.

It’s not about clearance, it’s about tire surface contact. Larger tire diameter = more contact, and thus requires more hub clearance. Clearance itself is not the issue.

I sure hope there’s enough clearance for chains if needed. I intend to go places where chains would be needed, at least on the rear.

You should be fine, but may need to avoid the lower ride heights. Hopefully there is a way to override any automatic lowering (aero or kneel modes).
