Rivian R1S size compared to other current model three-row SUVs, and R1T for comparison:

R1S is very comparably sized when looking at its most direct competitor in the EV market, and likewise at its direct rivals in the ICE market while still being a fair amount smaller than the more traditional large SUVs in the US, and right in-line with the full-size luxury SUVs out of Europe.
I would love to see a chart like your's with a few more categories:
  1. Time to charge to 80% (10% to 80%)
  2. Fast charging
  3. Warranty
  4. "gift' with purchase - Some are giving 1 year of free charges, a free home charging setup, etc.
My key criteria for my 1S are:
  • Hight while driving on the highway (I want to be up high with all the tractor-trailer traffic we have on I10 in the Indio area)
  • Time to charge (10% to 80%)
  • Range
What are my options? I don't need a car until my lease ends in July 2023. I love the idea of Rivian (environmentally conscious) and their direct-to-customer sales.

I hope you realize and accept that your first and third key criteria are totally at odds with each others. More height = more aero drag = less range.

I mean, the Rivians do have an adjustible height suspension. You could manually set it to its max height, as long as you're ok taking a hit to your range. Time to charge? Hate to break it to you (or anyone), but you're going to have to wait post 2023 to see any changes regarding charge times for batteries. Most of us are aware that grahpene and solid state batteries are the next gen batteries, but that still a few years away. Range, again this is a wait 'n' see scenario. As battery tech progresses, so shall range improve, but it is still a few years away.

The vehicle might not allow max height above a certain speed. Our LR3 automatically lowers to normal height if you maintain speed over 25 MPH. I donā€™t know if it is programmed this way because of handling concerns, excessive wear on CV joints, or something else. I donā€™t know if Rivian will do something similar or not but I thought it was worth mentioning that this may not be a sure thing.

? Last I looked it was just marginally larger than a model X (R1S) there are photos floating around here on the forum of scaled photos side by side.

I mean this is coming from someone who drove an Expedition EL, they aren't big, at least not in the USA. If we're talking Europe, then ok maybe.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee with QuadraLift works the same way. It has Aero/Normal/Off Road 1/Off Road 2. It'll drop from OR2->OR1 > 20, from OR1->Normal > 38, and from Normal->Aero > 50-55mph. I can't imagine Rivian wouldn't do something similar.
