I bought a king mattress at an estate sale. It's 79" long and R1T is 83" with tailgate down. Should be fine to haul right? Comes with boxspring and rails, etc. Someone mentioned laying it on top of the cargo rails? Not sure that would work?

Send a pic when you attempt :)

Reminds me of a time I lived in Houston, was driving on the highway next to a old car with a mattress on the roof with no ropes or straps, but a skinny dude lying on top holding it down and four hands sticking out of windows trying to hang on to it

I need to do this as well later this Spring. I was thinking cargo rails and tying it down super tight. Let us know how you get on.

I hauled a king mattress. I put it in a mattress cover and put it on top of the cargo bars and strapped it down. It was wider then the truck by a few inches, but was secure.

FYI the mattress cover I used was one of those thick tarp like ones. I would imagine a thin plasticky one wouldn't really protect it.

When I took my old one to the dump, I folded it like an upside down taco and strapped it in with the rail hooks. But I also didn't care about it, so 🤷🏼‍♂️

Success! It's not pretty, but we got it done! King Mattress and both box springs, the rails wouldn't fit in gear tunnel so squeezed them into the back seat area. It was a tight fit.
