Anyone ever had coolant replacement or refill?

Hello all,

A mobile rivian visit identified that my coolant is low. The coolant resovoir can be viewed right behind the windshield wiper fluid - pop off the front plastic section in the frunk (above the lightbar) and then pop up the plastic on the passenger side.

Per the manual, I thought that coolant was to be replaced every 112k or some odd miles. Is this coolant shared with the motors? I'm 26 months in to ownership and less than 20k total miles.

A service center appointment is required for the coolant to prevent air bubbles and such. It sounds similar to a brake fluid process.

The coolant is used to cool modules (amongst other areas which I do not have a definitive list of).

My truck was experiencing issues charging and the screens in the truck would randomly shut off and reset. The screens shutting off are most likely due to the low coolant per Rivian's mobile Tech - the modules were overheating?

Seems like I'll need an SC appointment for the coolant and to replace the on board charger to fix the charging and screen issues.

Truck was just in the SC in June and July for powered tonneau replacement. Apparently checking coolant is not part of the maintenance check the SC conducted...

Anyone else checked their coolant or had it serviced?

I had a recall completed on my truck shortly after delivery as there was a batch of them that didn't get enough coolant at the factory. It took about 1-1.5 hours to drain and refill it. It's also my understanding that this coolant runs double duty in cooling the battery as well as humans in the truck.

Did mobile service open a ticket for you on this or will you have to do so? Make sure there's an open ticket on it and then call service and see if you can get in sooner. Replacing the onboard charger is a drivability issue so I'd think they can work you in fairly quickly.

Mobile is in the process of opening the ticket per their comments. My closest SC is 2.5 hours away in Brooklyn, NY. Hoping to get use the Trenton, NJ SC. However, that SC is still being built and only has like 2 bays in service.

Thanks for the timeline details. Sounds like I'll need a loaner as this doesn't sound like they'll fix both things in one day.

I had my coolant topped off because I received a low coolant warning. Apparently, I have a small leak in the coolant pump, per the mobile tech. Mobile service added coolant, but they could not tell me what type of coolant was used. The bottle was unmarked. I haven't had the pump replaced yet because service in my area is a nightmare.

That's interesting... Mobile service told me that Rivian does not want mobile adding coolant due to air bubble issues.

Hmmm. The tech never mentioned that, and the tech I had is a pretty knowledgeable guy who has done mobile service for me several times. He just popped on the plastic cover on the passenger side of the frunk, which exposed the cap to the coolant fill reservoir, popped off the cap, and filled it to the fill line.

This was the first time I've had this guy for mobile. Fascinating how inconsistent service is...

This should not happen and should be covered by warranty.

I had a similar issue on my Volt when it was about 2 years old. Bubbles were trapped in factory and it took that long to burp, activate low coolant sensor and car would not allow charging. Nothing was damaged as Volt is 11 years old now.

Ah the Volt. That car has such a strong, devoted following.
