I like fishing more than most, but I’m never gonna spend $650 on a bed mounted rod holder.

I used an extension bar and then added on a few of these. Worked great on my last truck for 10 years.

How about a bicycle tailgate pad with the Velcro tie-down straps? I can see two rods per tie-down.
When I travel with my rods and don’t need to leave the reels on I use a large-diameter pvc pipe that I’ve capped to keep the tips safe.

Wow, for that money you can just hire someone to sit in the back and cradle each rod to their body.

What kind of rods? If like these I would say someone must be knocking these off cheaper online somewhere. If not, you should be able to have a friend with a welder or a nearby welder make one for you pretty easily.

If dealing with less rods or fly rods, spin rods, etc. there are a lot of roof top solutions you could probably adapt to the bed.

this is my flyfishing set up. I used old PVC scrap to make the rod holder (since been upgraded to make it longer). Glued a chopped off old fly rod tube and glued that to PVC to protect the reel. It is fastened to the roof cargo anchors

Can you give some close up picks? I'm particularly interested in how you mounted it.
Thanks.

yes sure - closeup of upgraded pvc rod holders. I actually made two. Those rubber moving straps are glued on to provide grip and a bit of separation to protect the truck’s finish .

After fiddling some more I would avoid standard bungees with metal hooks. Medium duty with plastic fasteners. rubber or velcro straps will be much less likely to ding your truck .

These look perfect:
