Amazon unveiled its first all-electric delivery van on Thursday. The vehicle, built by Michigan-based EV startup Rivian, will come with state-of-the-art technology, like sensing equipment and an advanced driver-assist system. The e-commerce giant says it expects to have 10,000 vans on the road making deliveries “as early as 2022,” with a total fleet of 100,000 vehicles expected by 2030.

I suppose this could also give us some insight into what the non-wood interior/dash might look like. E.g., the steering wheel and the dash still have the familiar elements, but are more utilitarian.

Here’s another article about the Amazon van. It has a few more interesting details, including this statement:

There’ll be three sizes of vehicle, eventually, scaled to suit different locations – from tight urban environments to more rural applications – and with different configurations of powertrain and battery size depending on where they’re be operated and what sort of terrain and weather they’ll have to handle.

This contract is why I am so bullish on Rivian. With this much production the end product is going to get better as it gets so much field use, Rivian has legs...
