Dying for some official testing numbers. But up to this point with all things equal (e.g. each model using its most efficient 21" wheels for example), do we think the:

1) R1S will have a bit > range maybe due to it having a bit better aerodynamics, e.g. no truck bed to catch wind, etc?

2) R1T to have a bit >range due to maybe less framing, less interior items/back seats weight, etc?

1 due to aero, & Rivian said as much early on.

In general, SUVs have less drag, so will be better at highway speeds. Even with a bed cover on a pickup, the air flows down into the bed from the cab and causes slightly more drag. Driving around town, I doubt there is much difference.

Thanks for replies, sounds good. Was thinking that would be the case with R1S being a bit more aerodynamic - but figure with frame/3rd row that weight also played a factor.

It'll probably be minimal but excited to see official numbers sometime soon.

There is a Teslarti article that puts the R1S at 310/410 but does not source where the information came from.

Rivian R1S: 7-seat, 410-mile SUV is taking on Land Rover in the luxury off-road game (teslarati.com)

I seem to recall seeing something from Rivian on this as well where they expected the SUV to be slightly higher but can't find that now.

We know that Rivian has backed off the 400+ right now on the R1S and are looking at a longer range with no estimate so far later in 2022. Take this article from 2018 with a grain of salt as much information has changed in the last 3 years.

True, may be some additional reasoning in it. I'm hoping that the R1S gets a good solid 310 miles or so, and it is more accurate like GM/Porsche, etc and conservative. Versus Tesla that way overestimates by 10-20%+ on their rated range. Porsche seems underestimated 50% even on what is possible with Taycan at times.

If that is the case. Then we would have a 310 mile range R1S that likely 1) gets more miles than the 316 mile Tesla Model Y small SUV, and 2) Get probably similar to the refresh still coming Model X stated at 360 miles (but is actually less quick now that R1S). They may not need a 400+ version for a while to compete at all..
