Alexa keeps saying I need to download or update Spotify before selecting songs through Alexa

Seems to have gotten worse with 2024.47. I used to be able to fix it by logging out/in to Spotify. Now that doesn’t even fix it anymore.
Same. I can’t fix it now. Tech support doesn’t seem to have a clue. Bringing it in AGAIN in February. What kind of recourse is there if they can’t resolve it. It doesn’t meet lemon qualification as far s as I can tell plus I love my R1S quad.

Same issue here. Logging out and back in used to fix it. If not that, then an infotainment reset. Nothing works. I don't understand why they are wasting time with adding jingle bell sounds when a very basic feature (really a safety feature that is advertised to consumers) is broken.

This is officially fully broken now on .47. The log out and log back in trick doesn't work.

Extremely frustrating, manually searching for a song with the keyboard is not a viable option while driving.

Same issue in Gen 1 R1S here. Has been recurring since the Apple Music update.

Alexa keeps refusing to play things on Spotify even though the Spotify app is set as the default music source in the Alexa app profile. Resets used to make it work for a time but since the last update, it just doesn't work.

Hopefully enough people report the issue to tech support they dig into it. Other than driving it's my most used feature AND we have to pay for connect+ which I fell I'm getting zero value out of

Same issue with Alexa-to-Spotify on our gen 1 R1T. I have a theory that if I start off using Spotify via the Rivian infotainment screen, then switch to requesting via Alexa (“Alexa play so and so on Spotify”), it tends to be more reliable. If I get in the car and start using Alexa right away, it’s more likely to fail. Need to test this out.

New owner, and Alexa in the truck has always behaved this way from Day 1, so I have no idea if you are even supposed to be able to trigger Spotify in the car by asking Alexa. To me, it's always sounded like a generic Alexa response that doesn't have a specific intent ported over to the Rivian integration...

indeed, you are supposed to be able to ask Alexa to play a song and if Spotify is your default player, it will in theory play that song on Spotify whether you say Alexa play song on Spotify or just Alexa play song. I got mine in December 20 23 and it worked very well until about July of last year. please be sure to report this to Tech Support because that’s not how it’s supposed to function or dysfunction.

Yep. At some point can a car manufacturer say "sorry we can't fix our own tech you'll have to live with it?" What consumer protections do we have around the latest technologies? I'm going on 6 months from first service on the issue. Almost 8 months since first occurrence.

INo Alexa woth Apple or Spotify is extremely annoying. I’m in a Chevy Equinox EV and the Google assistant is pretty flawless. Native google maps is also great. Not to mention it has text integration built in. Starting to lose some faith here especially given all the service issues.

I just got off a chat and it sounds like they know it's a problem but don't have a fix right now.." For the concern you have described, this is something that Rivian hopes to address with a future update. Unfortunately there is no set timeline."

Today, I received my R1S back from the service center, where one of the items to address was this problem. However, they are now claiming that it is an issue on the Amazon side of things, which does not make sense as it was functioning perfectly before the Apple Music update. Fortunately, I had my regular tire rotation scheduled at the same time, as it would have been a complete waste of time otherwise. I advise anyone who is awaiting service for this issue to avoid it if it requires a long travel. I have already submitted a ticket with Amazon, but I am not optimistic that this will be resolved. It is quite frustrating.

How do you submit a ticket with Amazon. Also if it costs Rivian $ in rental car I’m for it. That may seem shitty but hopefully money talks. It used to work, so to your point I don’t think it’s an Amazon issue

also wassym knew about the issue two years ago so why haven’t they fixed it?

also we pay for connect+. I paid for the full year package to save some money, but I’m going to challenge their service manager for some kind of refund. Doubt I will get it, but I plan to push their buttons. I’m an early adopter and I’m also shareholder. Probably won’t amount too much Except to say I believe in the company, but this is bullshit.
