As soon as the "connect plus" trial ended Alexa no longer works. Consistently get a message that says the Internet is not available. What is that about? I've had multiple cars from a Ford to Tesla to Porsche and have not encountered this. Very frustrating.

I'd sign out and sign back into Alexa. Verify you have Internet connectivity at all (by trying something that doesn't require Connect+). Also try reboot vehicle. Fyi without Connect+ you're limited to very basic Alexa functionality. You can try it on WiFi and/or mobile hotspot and see if it works there.

Yeah, turns out Alexa needs the internet. Who knew? If you don't pay for Connect+ (or tether with your phone), then you don't have internet...

Do you expect Alexa to work with no internet?

I expect my $100k+ Rivian to offer at least similar accessibility as my 8 year old Ford pickup or my used Subaru do without any extra charges. I would rather never use Alexa. And I am not forced to with any of my other vehicles.

You can use it, but you’re not going to have full access if it isn’t connected to the internet. This isn’t hard to understand. Who is forcing you to use it?

Create a mobile hotspot for your phone . You will name your hotspot and give it a password which will give you a WiFi that you can connect your car to. Connect your car to your phone's WiFi. You will also allow your phone Bluetooth's tethering. I never had my Alexa fully set up until I did this. I often have to click on my Mobile Hotspot on the phone if it hasn't been used for while which is easy. Beyond awesome.

I'll try linking the R1S to the phone. Maybe that will let me see messages and control the phone too,...

We could invent that and call it CarPlay and provide it for free, like Ford and Subaru and Porsche and,...

without connect+, Alexa is completely worthless (more so than with it). One would expect that you could still ask it for directions, but without connect+, you have to manually key in your destination. Seems like that's something that should be provided without connect+. Simple things like navigation should just work without a subscription thru a voice command.

I've also found that asking alexa to call someone no longer works either, it complains about not knowing which contact to call...seems like somehow there are duplicates of the same name and it can't figure it out...these two things should be provided as part of the basic service.

Another one of these posts. At least the OP got to "wanting" CP in the 1st page.

Yes, you, and I do to, may want Alexa, the internet, cp/aa for free, for X number of years. Well, it is not and was never stated as being so by Rivian.

Should Rivian or Amazon store your contact, phone history other data for free in the cloud and protect it? Nope.

So, either you hook up your cell as your personal hotspot or live with the limited functionalities.

I did this but it drains my iPhone 16 battery quickly.
Yes Alexa basic commands do work without Connect +.
For examples, "Alexa play bluetooth music" and it plays my Sirius radio app off my phone.
